[ - ] Could someone take a stab at guessing how many calories this salad might have? Mesclun greens, sliced chicken breast, beets, apples, one thin round of goat cheese, about 2 Tbsp of red wine vinaigrette. 5 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

Probably about 400-500 calories--it really depends on the cheese (100 calories an ounce) and chicke (about 50 calories an ounce). Vinaigrette if it's not too oily about 150 calories. [ Reply | More ]

np: 500 calories is perfect for a light meal. this isn't a lot of calories in the scheme of the whole day. (signed, an RD) (ps: add some more chopped veggies to that salad to make it an even better meal) [ Reply | More ]

[ - ] I need some stroller advice....So, db will be born in early december. We live in Brooklyn and have a car, which we use on weekends only. What do I need? (I have a 5yo but lived in the south until he was 3yo, and everything was given away). Let's say I bought a Quinny Buzz (not saying I am). Would I need both the bassinet attachment and a Maxi Cosi car seat? Neither? I'm really confused, to be honest. The winter, the rocky streets, etc. are throwing me off, and I've forgotten at what point I'll trade the whole thing in for a lightweight stroller (or don't you in NYC?) Please don't flame...I don't want to over buy.... 5 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

we never did the bassinet. Started with a "regular" stroller with full recline. Found it easier to use on the subway etc. and has grown with db. We're in Manhattan without a car so portability was important to us. Hope that helps. [ Reply | More ]

Ditto here. #1 was born i December in the city. I used an Inglesina Zippy from the beginning. That summer I also got (through the Urbanbaby "Garage Sales" actually), a lighter-weight stroller (Inglesina Swift, similar to the Mac Triumph) that I used for going on the LIRR to ILs, or if I was going to do a lot of on/off the subway/bus around the city. I like our Peg Venezia. It starts as a bassinet that can be zipped up and warm, then switches to a regular sit up stroller when db gets older. It has a large basket, cup holder, snack tray...everything we wanted. We did get a second light, umbrella stroller for travel though. [ Reply | More ]

[ - ] i still feel so isolated. baby is nearly 1 1/5 yo, none of my close friends are even married yet - so even when i do vent to them i just feel like they flounder for something to say, i don't even want to talk to my husband b/c during the limited time we actually ahve alone together i just don't want to get into it. i haven't bonded with anyone in our mommy and me class and generally haven't made any close "mom" friends. i don't know where to turn - just feel so alone. 7 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

I felt the same way. Try to find even ONE mom friend you can stand--you'd be surpised how one outing a week will make you feel better. Otherwise, what about going back to work part time (that's what I did)? Maybe the FT SAHM thing isn't for you--and what you really want are FRIENDS not mom-friends, you know? [ Reply | More ]

I was you. It is very isolating: unable to connect with other moms and it seems you're growing apart from your old ones. I know how it feels, and still haven't connected with many other new moms. But I agree that if you can find one other new mom OR can find even one your "old" friends that's willing to listen about your life as a mom without rolling their eyes, it will help. Just one. Coming to Urbanbaby also helped as well, 'cause even though I wasn't creating relationships I was sharing and getting feedback (and realizing that I really wasn't alone). Also agree with poster above that it will be easier to make new friends/connections as db gets older. Stay strong. You're not the only one who's been there. [ Reply | More ]

Will you be working or checking in from home? My office didn't ask (and I probably wouldn't have had the time anyway), but I know of people who feel that if they don't check in at their jobs, or offer to be "on call" they'll get screwed. [ Reply | More ]

I've been through this a couple times because of ovarian cysts. So stressful. Your issue sounds more likely to be intestinal. I'm sure it will be a long two days until the test, but it is only two more days. GL. [ Reply | More ]

This doesn't sound anything like ovaries. I had ovarian cyst with no symptoms (except a lower back ache that was probably unrelated as it was on the opposite side from the cyst and persisted after cyst was removed.) Don't worry. Doesn't sound like the doctor is. [ Reply | More ]
