[ - ] If you are overweight, how do you deal with comments from friends/family about your weight? I'm size 16 and am working on the weight loss but can't deal with the comments anymore, just can never think how to respond when they occur. 15 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

May I ask a serious Q? My brother is about 40 lbs over weight. No doubt he knows but seems to not care. I won't say anything but feel as if he doesn't control this now he will forever lose this battle. Most ppl say MYOB but he is my bro and I don't want him to have health issues for sheer lack of motivation. What do you suggest? TIA [ Reply | More ]

hijack: my sister is very overweight, not size 16 but in the plus sizes. If I had to guess, I would say she probably needs to lose 75 to 100 pounds. She's 51 and has 3 young children and I'm really worried about her health. what can I say or do? nothing? [ Reply | More ]

posted above about my sister, and she doesn't eat like that. she just eats all the time. if there is food within reach, she's eating it. if we're sitting around the dinner table after dinner, she'll just keep picking at stuff. it's compulsive. she would probably be a good candidate for Overeaters Anonymous. She's a recovered alcoholic as well [ Reply | More ]

I completely, completely agree with you. I think it is horrible that anyone would have the nerve to say a word about someone's weight. I am just wondering what she is doing. WHen I finally took the bull by the horns and decided I wanted to lose the weight I did it with ww and exercize and I have been fairly successful (now a size 12). Just thought I would offer some encouragement. [ Reply | More ]

[ - ] We just got DD's ERB scores. She did fine (92 full scale; 96 performance, 87 verbal), but it's lower than her other test scores. The write up was great. Essentially, she was very intelligent, but very shy during the test and refused to answer some questions. There was no prep, but does that gap between performance and verbal indicate to schools that we prepped? Also, for what type of schools is a 92 in play? Thanks? 14 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

or to my post: I can't reply directly to your reply, so I'm replying to my own post. We are not committed to private schools. We're waiting on the G&T results (DD scored a 99), but were thinking of applying to a handful of private schools next year. We're concerned about class size and we have always intended to move DD to private school by middle school. At that time, she might be up to 15 months younger than some of her classmates and I'm a little worried about that. Now, I just don't know what types of privates we should be considering. If you don't think you will move her until middle school I don't think the age thing will be a big deal--particularly with girls--in terms of maturity. They all catch up in a few years [ Reply | More ]

My had similar score and breakdown this past year -- 97 performance and 88 verbal (didn't feel like answering some questions) for a combined 94. This was also lower than dc's SB (went to Hunter 2nd round) and OLSAT. I know the score took dc out of the running at Dalton and probably other TTs. Your dc's score should be fine for 2nd and 3rd tier schools. Talk to PSD as to whether to submit your dd's SB scores. Our PSD was clueless and didn't guide us on that. [ Reply | More ]

up until this year, it was first come first serve for either 41 or 3 - but now it's a lottery - we had to submit an application and state which school was our first choice and now we have to wait to hear where we get placed (if at all) - i don't think there are any guarantees any more for a spot even in the local zoned school - at least not according to the NYT article that ran a couple of weeks ago re the local school in Tribeca that has a wait list [ Reply | More ]
