We just got DD's ERB scores. She did fine (92 full scale; 96 performance, 87 verbal), but it's lower than her other test scores. The write up was great. Essentially, she was very intelligent, but very shy during the test and refused to answer some questions. There was no prep, but does that gap between performance and verbal indicate to schools that we prepped? Also, for what type of schools is a 92 in play? Thanks? [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

That gap is not too big (we had a 17 point gap the first time my son took it). 92 may take you out of running for TT unless all other parts of your file are truly dynamite. When is her birthday? [ Reply | More ]

~~p.s. are you the one from this morning who said your report was "in progress" on the online site? [ Reply | More ]

Yes. The school had the report. [ Reply | More ]

Oct '03. We're otherwise very ordinary, so I wouldn't call her file dynamite. Do you think the so-called 2nd tiers like CSH would be in consideration? [ Reply | More ]

I wouldn't be able to say--but your pre-school director can probably help you. If you are committed to private I would say you need to apply very broadly if you are unconnected. I [ Reply | More ]

or to my post: I can't reply directly to your reply, so I'm replying to my own post. We are not committed to private schools. We're waiting on the G&T results (DD scored a 99), but were thinking of applying to a handful of private schools next year. We're concerned about class size and we have always intended to move DD to private school by middle school. At that time, she might be up to 15 months younger than some of her classmates and I'm a little worried about that. Now, I just don't know what types of privates we should be considering. If you don't think you will move her until middle school I don't think the age thing will be a big deal--particularly with girls--in terms of maturity. They all catch up in a few years [ Reply | More ]

My had similar score and breakdown this past year -- 97 performance and 88 verbal (didn't feel like answering some questions) for a combined 94. This was also lower than dc's SB (went to Hunter 2nd round) and OLSAT. I know the score took dc out of the running at Dalton and probably other TTs. Your dc's score should be fine for 2nd and 3rd tier schools. Talk to PSD as to whether to submit your dd's SB scores. Our PSD was clueless and didn't guide us on that. [ Reply | More ]

forgot to add that dc got into a solid 2nd tier school which we loved from the beginning, so all turned out well. also fall birthday dc. we opted not to send dc to G&T last year. [ Reply | More ]

Congratulations. I'm sure everything will be just fine for DD, whether she ends up in public or private. [ Reply | More ]

do you need FA? if so, apply broadly. we were in similar situation last year (91 overall) and got in with aid, but it was rough and nerve-racking, to say the least. good luck! [ Reply | More ]

Thanks. Congratulations to DC (and you) for getting in! No, we don't need FA, so hopefully that will make things a little easier. [ Reply | More ]

thank you...I was told by several people that FA does negatively impact an applicant's chances, contrary to everything the admissions offices say! [ Reply | More ]
