would someone mind explaining briefly what is going on with all this lottery talk. we're zoned for 41/3, ended up choosing 150. dd is in 9th grade now, but when we were deciding on elementary school, she was guaranteed a seat at 41 or 3 [ Reply | More ]

up until this year, it was first come first serve for either 41 or 3 - but now it's a lottery - we had to submit an application and state which school was our first choice and now we have to wait to hear where we get placed (if at all) - i don't think there are any guarantees any more for a spot even in the local zoned school - at least not according to the NYT article that ran a couple of weeks ago re the local school in Tribeca that has a wait list [ Reply | More ]

that's my understanding, that once you are in, you are in, even if you move out of the zone - the lottery is only for new admissions [ Reply | More ]
