thanks for asking. i think i'm hormonal. i just got my first period after a late miscarriage so i'm having mixed feelings. glad i got my period so we can start moving on, so sad that i'm not pregnant anymore. combined with dcs ending their school year which is makign me very nostalgic. my good friend is in the hospital although things are lookign better. just everything is making me sad. pre-K and G&T are two different things. there is a supply/demand issue with public pre-K, there simply aren't enough seats for all the DCs whose families want them. G&T starts at Kindergarten and it's more about getting DCs into better schools than the ones they are zoned to attend. [ Reply | More

Some people want G&T because they really (legitmately or not) believe their child is special. Others want it because they think (legitimately or not) their zone school isn't so good. I don't think so much of the G&T program. My DD qualified a couple years ago, and I chose a good zone school over it. But it would have been better than a crummy zone school. [ Reply | More

It's almost impossible to opt back in after first grade. They generally do not create new seats in a G&T class, they simply fill seats that open up when a DC leaves the program, so if no one moves or changes schools in a given year, there are no open seats to fill. [ Reply | More

I delivered at Mt. Sinai - it's pretty cramped, dingy and in general not nice. That said - the medical care itself is among the best in the city and if your friend is high risk in any way it's a good choice. op: i agree with you. i don't have a problem asking for the tuition reduction. (although i do wonder where to draw the line between asking for a reduction vs. saving money. but that's a separate issue). my bigger issue is that they ask for detailed financial information...salary, savings, expenses, etc. It's not information that i'd feel comfortable giving to anyone.
