anyone applied for financial aid at your dc's private school? did it bother you to have your financial information known to them? i'd like to get financial aid but it's awkward for me b/c i know the office staff socially. [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

we get aid but I don't care if they know my financial information. Not all of the staff knows and if they do, they do. We aren't doing anything wrong. We are hard working ppl but unfort. don't make enough to afford full tuition [ Reply | More

or: this is exactly how my dad felt and why he never tried to get me or my sibs into better schools. When I had dc and told him that I would be applying for aid, he said aren't you embarrassed? I said of what? I will be paying for tuition but just a reduced rate. I have nothing to be embarrassed about and this will be 100% better than our failing public option [ Reply | More

op: i agree with you. i don't have a problem asking for the tuition reduction. (although i do wonder where to draw the line between asking for a reduction vs. saving money. but that's a separate issue). my bigger issue is that they ask for detailed financial information...salary, savings, expenses, etc. It's not information that i'd feel comfortable giving to anyone. I realize they will use discretion, but i just don't feel that comfortable with it. [ Reply | More

it can be hard to realize this info is out there for ppl to know but in the long run (IMO)it's worth it and I appreciate how much info they ask for. This really separates the ppl who need it and those who are trying to scam aid and don't need it. GL [ Reply | More
