parochial school mom here. is it just the posters on UB or is everyone in the public school system trying to get into G&T? [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

it does seem like that. i think it's b/c even being zoned for a school doesn't guarantee spots for pre-k. [ Reply | More ]

pre-K and G&T are two different things. there is a supply/demand issue with public pre-K, there simply aren't enough seats for all the DCs whose families want them. G&T starts at Kindergarten and it's more about getting DCs into better schools than the ones they are zoned to attend. [ Reply | More ]

Some people want G&T because they really (legitmately or not) believe their child is special. Others want it because they think (legitimately or not) their zone school isn't so good. I don't think so much of the G&T program. My DD qualified a couple years ago, and I chose a good zone school over it. But it would have been better than a crummy zone school. [ Reply | More ]
