[ - ] Hi all - newbie here. Friends travelling from overseas and have booked an apt in Manhattan for their week-long stay - they've now advised it's at 140th Street just a 1/2 block from Broadway. Questions: What is this area like? Do you think they'll be safe at night - six young adults (early 20's) travelling - 2 men / 4 women. Let me know your thoughts please. 10 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

It's in Harlem. Probably fairly safe, esp being close to Broadway, but they won't want to hang out around there. [ Reply | More ]

Totally safe for NYC residents who know their way around. NOT SAFE for out-of-towners. I live nearby and I would only put someone there who is very wise in the ways of NYC/Harlem. [ Reply | More ]

I think the six of them are paying over $2500 for the apartment for the week (in November) and that the guy renting has already taken 25% of that as a deposit. Not sure what the cancellation policy is - asked them about it. I think they should cancel and book in a more central location--like the East or West 40's thru 60's. ?? Will let you know what they end up doing. Feel bad for them - don't really know the city and booked this blindly thinking it was very central as it listed in the description 'city center'! I have friends who live around there -- think considered Hamilton Heights area of Harlem. Not bad during the day and just have them call a car or get a cab to and from at night. Is it one of the luxury bldgs they built around there? [ Reply | More ]

She moved because her new boyfriend got a job there. Thing is, she had the affair for about a year and then 2 years ago she tells me that she's having an affair, wants a divorce and is moving to Seattle a few weeks later. She literally dropped it all at once. [ Reply | More ]

OP: It's been 2 years and I've gotten better and feel better, but it still does hurt a bit. I definatly try to not show any bitterness in front of my boys and only say good things about their mom to them. Luckily my friends are good, there are a couple that go out with me whenever I need to vent, which has gone down a lot in teh last 2 years. [ Reply | More ]

There's no York down here. One block outside your parameters is St. vatrtan's at 35th and first, then there is a small playground at 29th and Second. Then 19th and Second. Peter Cooper has some good ones, enter at 23rd and First and follow the path past the fountain to a nice one. Madison Square Park at 23rd-25th and Madison. [ Reply | More ]

"Chubby"? The definition for overweight here is greater than a 50 percentile difference between height and weight. E.g., 95th percentile for weight; 45th percentile for height. Does your DS have this issue? If not, then no worries. M&Ms work great in any case. [ Reply | More ]

This wasn't from me (the person who recommended m&m's), but I agree that one m&m per success probably won't hurt, especially if you don't offer food in other situations. My ds asked for the m&m's for the first few days then forgot about them. But I suppose you can also do something else [ Reply | More ]

Just trained my 3 yo who was showing zero interest. Took off diaper, put on underwear, and removed all diapers (except nighttime ones) from the house. First day had 5 accidents. Second and third, one accident. Great since then. He is testing you, bc you go back and give him the diapers. Use stickers as a reward [ Reply | More ]
