3.3 y/o ds will not sit on the potty, wear underwear, etc. We try, then try again a few weeks later, etc. Do we bribe? We're getting a little desperate becuase he's growing out of his swim diapers. [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

Nothing wrong with offering an m&m for every successful trip to the potty. [ Reply | More ]

Even if he's chubby? dh and I have agreed not to use food as a reward. Should we rethink in this case? [ Reply | More ]

"Chubby"? The definition for overweight here is greater than a 50 percentile difference between height and weight. E.g., 95th percentile for weight; 45th percentile for height. Does your DS have this issue? If not, then no worries. M&Ms work great in any case. [ Reply | More ]

This wasn't from me (the person who recommended m&m's), but I agree that one m&m per success probably won't hurt, especially if you don't offer food in other situations. My ds asked for the m&m's for the first few days then forgot about them. But I suppose you can also do something else [ Reply | More ]

when you are home, put a paper towel between him and the diaper. Then the urine stays against him and is uncomfortable. The problem is, modern disposables are so comfy there is little incentive to train. [ Reply | More ]

Just trained my 3 yo who was showing zero interest. Took off diaper, put on underwear, and removed all diapers (except nighttime ones) from the house. First day had 5 accidents. Second and third, one accident. Great since then. He is testing you, bc you go back and give him the diapers. Use stickers as a reward [ Reply | More ]

potty box: put a bunch of little toys in a box (party favors, etc) and let him see it. put the box in the bathroom, so its a reminder to him. everytime he goes, he picks one. worked like a charm for my dd. and i agree w/ other posters: no pull ups or diapers (except at night). it'll be a messy week, but after that - DONE [ Reply | More ]
