totally depends on where you live, how much walking you do, etc. love our bug and have been using it for almost 3 years, but i think the snap & go/stroller is fantastic for the first several months. super easy in restaurants and in taxis, and the kolcraft has a huge underbasket. i used to do a week's worth of grocery shopping with dd in that stroller. I'm in the city and used the snug ride with Graco snap n go for the first few months..then I got the combi (very light and easy on the bus or taxi..not heavy like the others you listed) [ Reply | More ]

If you do the bug, get the car seat attachment which makes it sort of like a snap and go [ Reply | More ]

snap and go it is 50 bucks and all you'll need in the city for awhile. Decide later if you want the bug or if you go straight to maclaren. I've had all three and a year later all I use is maclaren [ Reply | More ]

snap and go, Kolcraft car seat carrier, maclaren car seat carrier. I'm so happy I didn't purchase a stroller until dd was 3 mos. Just used Kolcraft car seat carrier and it was wonderful!!! saved up and at four months bought maclaren quest [ Reply | More ]

Just had my 2nd 3 wks ago, used Bug for only short while with DS (now 4)--found it was bulky and no space compartment below, no snack tray. Waste of money. I'm using Graco Snap N' Go--easy, and will transition to Maclaren soon as she's old enough. [ Reply | More ]

I'd try to do a nanny share with someone in your neighborhood. My experience is that good part-time nannies are very hard to find. Unless you can find a grad student studying something in the area of child development. I've had luck on craigslist. My worst experience has been on sittercity. [ Reply | More ]

so many reasons: can't control the kids, doesn't engage with them, makes unsafe decisions (leaving windows open over arm chairs so 2 yo dd climbs up and starts to crawl into open 2nd story window space), doesn't lock the doors when she leaves, opens windows open when the a/c is on, doesn't always serve them what I ask her to serve for meals, doesn't tell the truth about where she takes dd during the day, takes dd shopping, loses dd's shoes in random places she takes her shopping..... I could continue, but she's starting to annoy me now just thinking about her. BTW she had GREAT references. [ Reply | More ]

Unless I am traveling most of the summer I have to send dc to camp. 1. I need to get some work done, 2. camps end early enough that there is still plenty of time to spend together 3. I think it is better that a school age kid be with kids their own age and in organized activities rather than with me all summer - just my opinion. [ Reply | More ]

dc had 2 UESers in his class. The parents always took the F to 23rd and then walked from there (if the crosstown bus was there they'd hop on but if not, faster to walk). Also, if you are on the F, one mom (when it was cold, rainy) would take the F to West 4 and then transfer to the uptown C or E to 23rd and 8th). The C/E at 23rd is the closest subway so if you can figure out how to pick up the E train on the east side as it's coming from Queens...but I know one of those big transfer hubs is like 8 stories underground [ Reply | More ]

NP- Another UES going to PS 11 this year, K. You cannot even apply for bussing until day one of school... apparently they (whoever regulates bussing) doesn't consider the child part of the school until they've actually sat in the classroom on the first day! We will take the 79th St. crosstown to the C train down to 23rd... it takes about 45 mins. door to door. We chose PS 11 G&T over PS 290... did lots of research before making decision and there are lots of reasons to choose a G&T, especially a good one like PS 11, over a "good" zoned school! And if the commute sucks so bad we can switch to zoned... couldn't switch to G&T if it was the other way around! And hey, if there are enough of us UES'ers we can always carpool! ;-) [ Reply | More ]
