Port is nice. Take a look in the Salem area. The schools are not the best. For private school, Buckley is the way to go. [ Reply | More ]

Have to disagree. Salem is not the prettiest area in town, it is the streets behind the train station. Big, old homes with large lawns. And the schools are terrific: look up the high school in national rankings. It consistently gets more Intel winners than most schools in the country. And while Buckley is nice, it is no better than any of the other private schools here (Portledge, Greenvale, Friends). But really, why would you move here and pay the taxes (high) and then pay for private school?? [ Reply | More ]

[ - ] Silly question. Was just talking to a mom, whose son got into a G&T this year for K. She said that she never ranked schools, and they sent her a LIST of schools to choose from. The list included Anderson, Nest, and a few others, but chose a near by G&T (but not a district one). And - she got the results in April. Is that even possible? 8 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

My friend's 6 yo dd and my ds were kind-of bored by it because they didn't really understand the major theme of the movie and we, the adults, kept having to explain the concept of the movie to them. It was used to control pain but it only succeeds in making you sleepy while in enormous pain so the pain takes on an even more nightmarish quality because you can't marshall any energy to control it. I don't think anyone chooses induction -- it's a medical call no? I had first induced with pitocin (a week late, was born 9 5) -- decided to wait and see about if I want epidural, and asked for it towards the end, so basically labored without, pushed with. Now expecting #2 - I will probably ask epidural even earlier (?) [ Reply | More ]

Yes, 20 hours and fabulous. Much worse would be drugging baby and you. #1--epidural, plan to do it again if i am lucky enough to have another. I was in labor for 20 hours and pushed for 2, I don't think I would have had the strength to push that long if I had not had the rest and respite from the pain the epidural provided. I did not feel drugged and baby was alert and awake. [ Reply | More ]

I would be so interested to hear how you would compare epidural and natural--I had an epidural for my first but am curious about natural now that i have heard everyone rave about it--and you rarely meet someone who has done both. recovery with natural was so much faster-i actually left the hospital the next day and felt 100%. it was a much faster labor so even though the pain was just as intense, i could bear it for 2 hours (rather than 20). worth striving for, but don't beat yourself up if you opt for epidural. I also did 1 with epidural and 2 with nothing (no time); I far preferred having an epidural, as I found the pain of natural birth so distracting and upsetting that I couldn't concentrate on the experience of birth; the recovery on #2 was also easier for me, but I think it was because second births are so much faster, not because I did it without pain medicine [ Reply | More ]

I second the Craiglist route. Find a 16 inch with training wheels. She'll most likely learn to ride a bike somewhere between 5-6 years old. At that pint, you can buy a good bike that will last for some time. As for the trike, I think it's fun for 4 y/o's to ride trikes. It's much more fun than a bike with training wheels - you can go fast, don't need help, etc, etc. So, while on Craigslist pick up a cheap trike, too. [ Reply | More ]
