I'd budget about $15/hr for a nanny. I think daycare ends up being about 1/2 the price of a nanny? At least when I was looking... [ Reply | More ]

IME anywhere from $500-$650/week for a nanny (no matter what UB tells you) depending on how much experience and whether on/off books, etc. Daycare for a newborn can run about $500/week, but I think that gets less expensive as dc gets older, whereas a nanny will get more expensive (annual raises) assuming you keep the same one. I've heard good things about Buckle My Shoe and one on the UES and one on the UWS but I can't think of the names of either right now. [ Reply | More ]

Do you mean to stain them or to finish them? Staining is adding color/darkening, finishing is replacing the shiny top coat. (This is done with any one of several products either oil, wax, varnish or most common now a days- poly urethane.) If you stain them you will have to then finish them. (I have no help for your part of CT. Sorry.) [ Reply | More ]

I figured that would happen. With #1 had got a pain in my stomach at about 15 weeks so decided I was done running since it was not worth any risk. Very early on now so just keeping it a bit slower and staying on the treadmill if it is very hot and humid outside. [ Reply | More ]

Technically, it should just say Mary Smith, Mrs. Mary Smith or Mrs. John Smith but people often put two names on it. I have 1/2 Mary Smith and 1/2 Mrs. John Smith and I used either depending on the situation. My DH never writes notes to school, etc. [ Reply | More ]

Technically, this is what you are supposed to do. "John and I loved your school for little junior and thought x, y and z" but it's tricky because most people don't know what formal etiquette is or care anymore and they sometimes get confused when I send notes. In any case, if you are going with two names I say scratch the Mr. and Mrs. or get a cream card with a swirly cream monogram and they won't be able to really tell whose letters are on there. I like Reaves Engraving. [ Reply | More ]

No, I totally can see how you have to think about this! I am not even sure. I think you have to go with the type of person you are, but can do foldover for both types of schools. You don't sound like someone that would have "Mrs. John Doe" stationary so far, probably a little less over the top formal. Now I can't decide!
