Ann Taylor is sometimes good for this - but you might have to have the sleeves taken up depending on your proportions. I find JCrew cut too narrow even at the larger sizes to look good. I really wouldn't buy something like this online but would rather go and try things on. You could also buy something that is more loosely cut and have it fitted a little. [ Reply | More ]

There are generational consequences. On the flip side, why do you think breaking the cycle of poverty is so hard? I think it really really really depends on each individual person. My dad grew up in the Great Depression/Dust Bowl Kansas, had no parental involvement, no money, everyone he knew became a farmer like their parents. Most colleges consider race as a factor (I am the daughter of a former HYP admissions counselor who retired 2 years ago) when they can - it is "supposed" to be race-blind, but it is pretty obvious on many applications. They try to diversify as much as possible. This is especially common in the top colleges against Asians, in undergrad only. A number of traditionally-black colleges also are actively trying to admit more non-black kids [ Reply | More ]

Any way you slice it, Black people have a harder time in America overall than Whites. For so many things Blacks have to work twice as hard to get what they need - school, jobs, acceptance - that will probably never change, no matter who is president. When they grow up they can complain to each other about dh and me - and hopefully stay close enough to support each other through hard times. I think formula is more filling. Try feeding her solids first and then giving formula. [ Reply | More ]

[ - ] I'm so turned off by the new look of the site (I imagine this must have been discussed ad nauseum), but I have been out of traveling) and miss some of the old features. When I do visit it seems like requests for help (whether is is child related or not) get very few responses. Why does it seem like the Toddler board moves at a snail's pace? 16 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

as a message board maybe, but it does not allow for good instant conversation like UB did, and as a result much less traffic, which sucks. I am also tired of the same posts popping up on first page month after they were started. [ Reply | More ]

The board seems totally dead if you sort by recency, because you are missing 75% of the conversation that does that place (on older threads). [ Reply | More ]

I am not, but I don't think the government would let Fannie Mae go under. There would literally be pretty much no bank willing to give people mortgages if this was the situation. [ Reply | More ]

Coops tend to be much pickier and more conservative about your finances than a bank is - and most coops restrict the % you can borrow, even more so that an bank will, so if you can buy a coop you probably won't have any issues. [ Reply | More ]

I am really happy that I am trying it, but I do have some mixed feelings. Pros: I feel like even this one extra day with DD will makes me feel like the balance of daycare/time with her family is better; If DD gets sick it is SO MUCH less stressful, I can take the day; I get to feel like a SAHM for a day/do the mommy thing - take DD to classes, Central Park, swimming... sometimes my mom comes in; CONS: I check in on Fridays and sometimes do some work during nap time, etc. Someone is out for four months in my group, and it's harder to keep my workload to four days now but they have me budgeted for five days. So really the mommy track/work to pay type of thing. [ Reply | More ]

-- But I think I really am way happier. I actually had no choice but to pay for 5 days of daycare so I can bring DD to school and have an hour or two to myself in the morning. A whole day if I wanted, but that would kind of defeat the purpose of going 4 days to be with her more. My husband is SO MUCH happier. [ Reply | More ]

advantage - she has reportable wages so she can get a mortgage, prove employment for landlord, collect unemployment, qualify for social security, obey the law. For you, you can and must buy workman's comp which could protect you if she has an accident in your home. disadvantage - costs you more and she takes home less (unless you gross up her pay).
