Nanny paid on the books: what are the advantages/disadvantages to hiring a nanny that has to be paid on the books? [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

advantage - she has reportable wages so she can get a mortgage, prove employment for landlord, collect unemployment, qualify for social security, obey the law. For you, you can and must buy workman's comp which could protect you if she has an accident in your home. disadvantage - costs you more and she takes home less (unless you gross up her pay). It's legal and there is legal protection for both you and the nanny. Con is that it is more expensive, sometimes a lot more expensive. [ Reply | More ]

There are no disadvantages. It will cost you more but provide protection for the person to whom you've entrusted your children. This is a strange question imo. [ Reply | More ]
