I take everything I read on UB with a grain of salt. FWIW, we receive aid with one dc, our incomes have recently gone up, so we will receive less next year. Trevor very much values knowing that they are one of your Top 3 choices. You can either convey that in your interview or through PSD. If you show little real interest your DC will get WL or rejected even with 99x3. [ Reply | More ]

2nd and 3rd tiers GENERALLY reject 99x3 kids unless there is strong interest shown. ALL the schools are concerned about yield and it's the rare kid with such a score who won't end up it tt. [ Reply | More ]
General Topics 07.14.08, 11:29 AM Flag

I don't necessarily agree that all 99x3 will get TTs but I think you should really work at the lower tier interviews just as hard as the TTs even with super high scores - just to have choices. DS's classmate had 99 ERB (confirmed) and they were WL everywhere. Finally came off one 3rd tier WL day before deadline. I think they set their sights high b/c of score and did not show much interest at the schools on the bottom of their list. That being said, if PSD knows a 2nd or 3rd tier is in your Top 3 - they will/should definitely convey that to the school so they take application seriously. [ Reply | More ]

We applied out for our 99x3 dc in 06/07 season. 5 tts, 2 2nd tiers and Hunter round 2. Saw no need to set ourselves up to be brokered. Got into 2 schools (inc fc) in the top 3 on our list. [ Reply | More ]

Happened to us at our safety and DC had 99 erb and great interview (per teacher acquintance who recused herself from DC's interview group since she knew him). If dc has a top ERB score, schools that are not top 10 or 15 will assume you are not really serious about them and you are only using them as safety. They assume you will take another higher tiered school if dc gets off the WL there or something. So, they will WL you or reject you. [ Reply | More ]
General Topics 07.14.08, 08:34 AM Flag

This is really true. It's all about strategy, which makes everything harder. If your kid has a 99, you listen closely to feedback and pick a FC that loves your kid, because she's not getting into Trevor (unless you genuinely love Trevor and FC it). [ Reply | More ]

I personally think PSDs may give away alot of info to schools that are your safety. They want to get the max number of kids in school and have few shutouts so they are interested in talking up the kids they think would accept the safety school. PSD told us school 4th on our list wanted DS very much. She knew we really liked the school in question but two schools higher up on our list were also likely to come through. When letters came out, DS WL'd at the 4th school which accepted another boy at our PS who landed up taking the spot. I think PSD told the school we likely would not come and other child definitely would. [ Reply | More ]

[ - ] So, kid #1 is going to Lower Lab. #2 is going to be in preK age next year and I will send her to PS198 (hopefully we'll still have siblings preference next year). If she's not going to make the cut for LL K the year after she will stay in 198. I don't care if it is all black or not. She'll do fine and I have only one building to go to to pick up and drop off. 3 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

I love my apartment and Carnegie Hill and DD is 2 now and I am starting to think about talking people into this. I looked at the zone map and I got so depressed. There are roughly six streets with lower-income housing and the rest of the zone is mainly UMC. If everyone just sent their kids there it would be amazing. It could have PTA money and a diverse student body. [ Reply | More ]
