[ - ] yay - dh and I got 10 week old dd to sleep in her crib all night! We're exhausted from going in and soothing her thru the night, but she's still in there and she never escalated her cries to that red-faced, soundless cry followed by the piercing shriek. Hoping tonight goes better, and so on, etc. Need coffee now... 2 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

only for short amts of time - maybe an hour to hour and a half bet feedings, then cries and we have to put her in her swing. she's only been sleeping in her swing at night, too, with either dh or me monitoring sleeping with the swing next to one of us to make sure she's ok during the night. sexy. [ - ] My 1.5 yr old was sick, high, high fever, had a pus-like discharge from her little vagina, kept gripping the area when she peed, Doc gave her anti-bi's for UTI , 5 days later no improvement, fever getting worse, does urine test, prescribes stronger anti-bio, today get the lab results from the urine test. E-coli. Changes Anti-bio script. My baby seems good, no fever, in recovery, still grabbing herself when she pees. I am totally freaked out. Anyone got any experience of this? My dd had a UTI at 8 mos, and I've also had them myself, and it definitely takes a few days for the pain on peeing to go away. Also, the memory of the pain is pretty strong. She'll probably be fine in a few days. But, you should totally fire your ped. UTIs are extremely serious, and I cannot imagine why it would take so long to find the correct antibiotic. The ped should have done the urine test immediately and sent it to the lab, and would have known within a day or two what antibiotic to use. Also, your ped will probably tell you this, but you should get your dd tested for kidney reflux, which involves a very unpleasant test called a VCUG, but you need to do it to find out if your dd has kidney reflux which makes her more likely to get UTIs. Good luck. [ Reply | More ]

Sorry - not about every little question for 500 families. Principals have more important things to do with their time like observing teachers to give them informed feedback on their teaching to mentor them; generating and fine tuning curriculum; oh, and the DOE gives them a ton of administrative tasks, too. Good principals, like Culot, are available when they have a situation that needs intervention, otherwise, he's at PTA meetings and parents can ask him questions there. People need to get over needing such one-on-one time with the top cheese (whether it's school or business) before speaking with someone else in an organization. There are other competent people to help answer questions. Signed, mom of both public and private school dcs. [ Reply | More ]

I had a really bad experience with him and the office.(It was only for one visit.) I was sent to him by my midwife for a colposcopy. I saw him about an hour after my appt. time. (The women in the office were laughing because, apparently, he's chatty and gets behind in his schedule.) My midwife sent me to him for the colpo since it was something that she could not do. Right before the procedure, he asked if I wanted to see photos of the baby. I, of course, said yes and mentioned that I had my trans-nuchal ultrasound in two days. Anyway, he spent about 1 minute taking photos and then got on with the procedure that I actually scheduled for. I was really surprised when I saw that he sent in a claim for the $300 for my 1-minute ultrasound. I called to see if they could waive the co-insurance that I was being charged specifically for the ultrasound. The woman in billing was highly unsympathetic and told me that my charge was so small that it wasn't a big deal for me to pay it. Anyway, the worst is that I'm only allowed two ultrasounds under my insurance and that was my second. Anything from here goes under medical review by my insurance company. This is a huge bummer since I still need to have my 20-week and a fetal echocardiogram before I'm done. Overall, not a good experience. [ Reply | More ]

I had a very pleasant experience with Dr. Mucciolo himself. I thought he was both courteous and respectful, and really helped me understand everything about what my body would be going through in the next few months. However, his office staff is TERRIBLE. One young woman, I believe her name is Janey or Jamey, both insulted and laughed at my situation WHILE I WAS SITTING NOT 2 FEET AWAY. She was rude and insulting. The last thing a woman needs during her gynecological exams is a member of the office staff making uncomfortable comments. [ Reply | More ]

LOL! ITA! "struggling to get into the Ivy league" is a preposterous statement. Dc's from tt schools still are admitted into the Ivies at a higher % than from any other school. [ Reply | More ]

I agree with OP and "getting into harvard" post - I went to an Ivy from a new england prep school and had never heard of any of the NYC TT schools. All disappears once you get to college - it's a level playing field again. [ Reply | More ]

I don't see the relevancy of your "not hearing of any of the tt schools". It has zero impact on the education received at these schools, or the fact that they have great exmissions, better than those at the New England prep schools, in fact. In addition, what exactly do you agree with? TT schools aren't struggling to get students into the Ivies, that's laughable. [ Reply | More ]

it has to do with this tiny microcosm becoming less relevant in the world. certainly most people haven't heard of the TT in NYC, but more and more the Ivies won't care about them. [ Reply | More ]

You know we are all laughing at you correct? It is too tempting not to continue to bait you. You have absolutely no idea what you are saying, No experience, no history or information to base this on, you are just a very angry woman who thought her dc was a genius, clearly is below or just average and has an axe to grind. We need to go to dinner now, but go speak with someone about your anger, life is not a competition and good luck to you. [ Reply | More ]

They aren't struggling, you would have to be a native to understand that every school has bad years. But when Dalton has a bad year it means another TT has a good one. Colleges never tire of taking a v. large proportion of dcs from these schools, sorry. Good luck with that bitterness though. So what if your dc didn't get into a good school, you have to remember dcs end up with the education that fits them [ Reply | More ]

lol! a native. what I see is that the priveleged class is losing their stronghold, and it makes me gleeful. just read the page 6 article. people of college applicants are pissed. they are no longer thinking of how well educated their TT kid going to a crummy college is. they want results, just like they wanted for preschool and K. they are now less likely to get them. you people with 4 yos are idealistic and just living in the glory of getting a spot at dalton now. tlk to me in a few years. I told you. i am bitter because I was not let into the club. have a great smart kid, and I am hoping he will win out eventually. When I see the priveleged kids getting into mediocre colleges because the ivies want more kids like mine (first generation college with very high IQ), I feel happy and like there is justice. I can see from all the posts here that I am justified. calling my dc an idiot, not good enough, a moron, it, and on and on. I will enjoy seeing people like this fail. who can blame me? If you understand you are bitter because you were denied something you wanted why do you continue to humiliate yourself in front of those people like this. Who knows if your dc is smart or not, so much goes into acceptance. It could be they were unimpressed with your dcs abilities or saw that dcs score did not match what they saw after meeting them. Most likely however, it seems apparent you may well have been the reason dc was turned away. Your instability on an anonymous board is evident, in person it must be glaring. Try to work on yourself and focusing on supplementing your dcs education. GL to you, I hope you sort it out. [ Reply | More ]

Oh please, I am sending my dc to private for the education, period. All of those schools still have excellent college placement. For me it has never been about the holy grail of HYP. If that is what dc wants, fine, but I realize that my creative kid will probably be better suited for a different type of school. [ Reply | More ]

Independent schools are skilled at helping their students apply to colleges. There's no comparison to public schools in this respect--even the strongest public school advocates acknowledge this point. [ Reply | More ]

^^^ and guidance counselors are encouraging kids to apply more widely now and consider schools that may not have been on the radar a few years ago. Again, some parents may be fixated on HYP (in the same way that some parents are fixated on tt schools), but the schools place really well and kids are much less likely to fall through the cracks. I wish all the really hard-working, bright kids in schools in NYC public high schools had the same opportunities. I think this is what recent changes at schools like Harvard are trying to accomplish--a more level playing field for all kids. [ Reply | More ]
