Not Trevor mom but Trevor was my 2nd choice after Dalton. I don't think Trevor is a safety by any means. [ Reply | More ]

the main safeties right now are mandell K and Claremont prep. They aer pretty much FCFS. [ Reply | More ]

I would add Cathedral to the list. [ Reply | More ]

Are you joking? Cathedral is very small, and not at all easy to get into it since spots are few. Several families from our preschool really wanted it and kids did not get in, even with very good ERBs. [ Reply | More ]

I agree with this. Also Dwight and BIS. [ Reply | More ]

They are far from FCFS, but, yes, they are easier to get into than many schools. [ Reply | More ]

LOL--first come first serve? are you kidding? I know Mandell had a long waitlist this year, and I understand Claremont did too. They may get fewer applicants than the other more established ongoings, but they're definitely not FCFS, and I don't think there's any "safety" schools anymore. [ Reply | More ]

Don't be ridiculous. Everyone gets into Claremont, and Mandell K is a brand new school that was not in operation this year. We're talking K here. [ Reply | More ]

I know for a fact that Mandell had 100+ applicants for 20 spots this year, and did have a long wait list. Believe what you want. [ Reply | More ]

I don't think that Trevor is, or Cathedral as other poster said. Dc got into a TT, but WL at both Catherdral & Trevor. I know many people with high scoring nice dc who wanted Trevor & Cathedral & didn't get either. [ Reply | More ]

If your DC has a high ERB you need to FC Trevor or Cathedral (they won't believe you'd go otherwise) [ Reply | More ]

Trevor very much values knowing that they are one of your Top 3 choices. You can either convey that in your interview or through PSD. If you show little real interest your DC will get WL or rejected even with 99x3. [ Reply | More ]

2nd and 3rd tiers GENERALLY reject 99x3 kids unless there is strong interest shown. ALL the schools are concerned about yield and it's the rare kid with such a score who won't end up it tt. [ Reply | More ]

I don't necessarily agree that all 99x3 will get TTs but I think you should really work at the lower tier interviews just as hard as the TTs even with super high scores - just to have choices. DS's classmate had 99 ERB (confirmed) and they were WL everywhere. Finally came off one 3rd tier WL day before deadline. I think they set their sights high b/c of score and did not show much interest at the schools on the bottom of their list. That being said, if PSD knows a 2nd or 3rd tier is in your Top 3 - they will/should definitely convey that to the school so they take application seriously. [ Reply | More ]

We applied out for our 99x3 dc in 06/07 season. 5 tts, 2 2nd tiers and Hunter round 2. Saw no need to set ourselves up to be brokered. Got into 2 schools (inc fc) in the top 3 on our list. [ Reply | More ]

If you treat any school as safety when applying, they will pick up on it and not take your dc. If you love it and make it your first choice, then you have good odds. [ Reply | More ]

That is true, but even if you loved it - in this day and age - it may not happen [ Reply | More ]

Of course. But many people make the mistake of treating the 'safety' schools as such and then are surprised they reject their high scoring dcs. All schools prefer families that actually want the school. [ Reply | More ]

Happened to us at our safety and DC had 99 erb and great interview (per teacher acquintance who recused herself from DC's interview group since she knew him). Told PSD and Early Steps it was our last choice and rejected (not WL'd) from school. Really only admitted to Top 3 and one school which never called PSD for feedback but lower on our list. If dc has a top ERB score, schools that are not top 10 or 15 will assume you are not really serious about them and you are only using them as safety. They assume you will take another higher tiered school if dc gets off the WL there or something. So, they will WL you or reject you. [ Reply | More ]

This is really true. It's all about strategy, which makes everything harder. If your kid has a 99, you listen closely to feedback and pick a FC that loves your kid, because she's not getting into Trevor (unless you genuinely love Trevor and FC it). [ Reply | More ]

I personally think PSDs may give away alot of info to schools that are your safety. They want to get the max number of kids in school and have few shutouts so they are interested in talking up the kids they think would accept the safety school. PSD told us school 4th on our list wanted DS very much. She knew we really liked the school in question but two schools higher up on our list were also likely to come through. When letters came out, DS WL'd at the 4th school which accepted another boy at our PS who landed up taking the spot. I think PSD told the school we likely would not come and other child definitely would. [ Reply | More ]
