Spence does quite well with exmissions every year. People are misinterpreting the fact that it was not in the most recent WSJ ranking, which was because the graduating class that year had less than 50 students and the ranking only included schools with 50 or more in the graduating class. Same thing happened to Collegiate a few years back and you would be hard pressed to say Collegiate has a problem with exmissions! [ Reply | More ]

Tiers, tiered textures(not ruffles)Above the knee swing outerwear and capes over longer and fitted pieces. Opaque, tinted leggings, shorter dress and skirt lengths(although retail production will hit the sales floor in longer proportions), below the ankle narrow wedge boots and woven full legged trousers-we're seeing some more fitted to the lower leg-but not pegged, genied or zoave and lots of plaid. Well, my child has autism and we went because it's just what you have to do to get your kid into a decent private SN school in New York and also get funding from the DOE. I really did agree with his report and felt that he got at my dc's intelligence, strengths, and weaknesses in a way no one had ever done before. He did not exaggerate, but he did write the report quite carefully. Not sure what you mean about the teacher's word? [ Reply | More ]

I'm sure he is worth it especially if you are looking for a SN private spot. I'm told he is the one to go to if hoping to get a private acceptance. However if that is not what you are looking for imo there are other psyches that cost a lot less and good. We saw Lillian Fernandez and she was a fraction of the cost of Salsberg. [ Reply | More ]

My ds's evaluation with Dr. Salsberg cost $3,600. He was wonderful and really "got" ds and the kind of school that would be right for him. I was able to get my insurance co to reimburse me for half of it (including the $500 deductible), but I had to really fight the company to do it (got my employer's HR dept involved). In reimbursing me, the insurance co wrote that it was a "one-time exception". [ Reply | More ]

car camping? Are you sleeping in your car? OR are you setting up a tent? It will be fine. If you are using a tent bring a blow up mattress, your pillows and a quilt. There is no need for sleeping bags if you have this. Also bring a big portable cooler (fridge) and fill it with ice and food that needs to be kept cold. The camp sites usually have a place to buy ice and wood. What we do is buy food in the town nearest to the camp site so we aren't lugging it from home (usually comes out cheaper). Bring lanters and portable fan (the tents can get steamy). It's a lot of fun [ Reply | More ]

It's good to start now. We have always done family dinner with both of ours (6 & 2). They get the hang of it pretty quickly. It's not always pretty or warm & fuzzy, but you just hang in there. We try to do "highs" & "lows" each night (of our day). The kids usually set the table (2 y.o. does the napkins). She's learned to say "excuse me" before getting up. Some nights she's really ready to be done at 5 minutes but most nights hangs in there the whole time. If she really is done early then we usually ask that she either sit & keep us company or go to her room to play so we aren't distracted. I think family dinner is one of the very best things you can do for your kids. [ Reply | More ]

Well, with our 2y.o. (she's 2 1/2 right now) we have given her a TO for acting up--but that's so rare. I think because she's the second and she's so verbal, she wants to be a part of it. And to be honest, I don't remember w/ DS exactly how it all went. We've just always done it. I do get them involved w/ the food prep & discussion when I can and I think that helps. There's a terrific book on eating, Ellyn Satter's Child of Mine (Amazon has it) that might have some good ideas. And we always all have the same meal--no short order cooking, that's really important to me and cuts down on problems, I think. [ Reply | More ]

Okay thanks. Good ideas. Guess it's just a matter of time and just breaking them in -- as with everything else. [ Reply | More ]

Are they boys? I hate to stereotype, but it is sometimes harder for DS to sit nicely than DD. Having the Kinderzeat has helped a lot (but w/ 2 that may not be an economical solution). Both of mine were out of the high chair by 18 months and I think more comfortable for it. DD is still pretty messy--DS (the oldest) we call Felix because he's always been so very tidy. She's still learning not to wipe her hands on her clothes. But she feeds herself and manages fine so that's the important part. Just take it one day at a time, don't expect to enjoy it all the time but know that you're doing them a great service in so many way and it will get easier. [ Reply | More ]

One boy and one girl. Boy is delayed and can't really be expected to sit and eat like a normal 2 YO. We usually put his highchair up to table and spoon feed. So he's restrained! [ Reply | More ]

We have always done family dinner (3yo and 1yo) from the first day they were in a highchair. Our kids seem to enjoy it and are fine when we go out to restaurants etc. [ Reply | More ]

when they act up anywhere, just remove them from the situation for a few minutes, explain what is going on and then bring them back.......ask them if something is wrong...my DS said one time "my feet can't touch the floor".......we put him at his own table near us and now everyone is fine [ Reply | More ]

we have an ikea platform bed (malm) that doesn't make much noise. i would think any kind of platform bed (and they come in every price point) would be on the less-noisy side. [ Reply | More ]

I would send, but warn them that he was warm last night. Be prepared for a call. 101.5 is not that high in my book. [ Reply | More ]

it may not be high you your book but it's a fever and there are rules. I wouldn't want your sick dc to get my kid sick. You wouldn't want my sick dc to get youd kid sick. OP shouldn't send dc in today [ Reply | More ]

She's clearly fighting something off. Even if you don't care about getting other kids sick, why expose your child to other kids if her immunity is low? Do you have an important meeting that you can't miss? If you won't be in dire circumstances without the camp, I don't know why you'd even consider sending her. [ Reply | More ]
