Could you get Dora and Diego costumes or something so the kids could dress up as the characters themselves? Maybe you could stage an animal rescue that they have to do....have an animal go missing and they do a scavenger hunt to find it? [ Reply | More ]

cute idea. i was thinking of finding backpacks and doing some sort of scavenger hunt to fill them. i just don't want it to get too complicated or chaotic, which i have seen happen at other parties. [ Reply | More ]

I would keep it simple and just hire a dress up person to come to a traditional birthday party. You can have it at a pizza place, crafts place/art party space, or if you have more $ the Central Park Zoo since Diego likes animals. Maybe you can do a diego/dora/map/backpack art project. my point is secretarial work is secretarial work. Don't look for excitement in your life from your job. Find it elsewhere - you know somewhere that really matters. Yourself, your family, a hobby, volunteer work, a gift you have to share with others. Jobs are jobs - thats all they are. [ Reply | More ]

I'm not sure when this was posted but it sounds as if you are suffering from depression. That doesn't mean there aren't things you'd like to change in your current life but having depression makes it hard to see things clearly and make changes. Most insurances companies cover at least brief psychotherapy. You may also want to consider medication which you could receive from a psychiatrist (also covered by insurance). If you trust your PCP or OB/GYN, some are willing to prescribe antidepressants. They can be a tool while you work through more complicated issues. [ Reply | More ]

Yes...this sounds definitely sounds like depression. I've been there. I'm also a secretary and a mother of two. You should try doing an hour of aerobics every day, eliminate sugar from your diet and take B vitamins (complete) and fish oil capsules every day. Also, if you are not already taking medication, you might want to do some research on 5HTP and St. John's Wort...they're herbal supplements and are similar to anti-depressants (just safer and milder). Although, you'll be able to find them in any health food store, be sure to do your research and ask questions before taking anything. You'll be amazed to see that life can be good again. I wish you well. [ Reply | More ]

statistically the odds are overwhemlming that it will be a boy, but who cares! Come up with a pleasant upbeat response for times like this. Something like, we don't really care what sex the baby is, we are just happy to be having another child. I always wanted four children. OR, snark back and say, We are going to do genetic testing and abort if its a boy and just watch them fall over! [ Reply | More ]

Pavillion is expensive but, they did find me a stellar nanny and she stayed with us for 6 years. My current nanny / housekeeper I found through Abby Nanny which is less priecy, CZDLutz@yahoo.com, and we love her ! You can also try gonannies.com but, I didn't get good matches through them. maybe she thinks this because she is always around people who are 'casually mentioning' that their dc is reading...and maybe some are, and maybe some are saying their dc is 'reading' because they recognize the words 'stop' and 'no'. Moms love to brag or sometimes they use terms very loosely. This one mom friend of mine always talked about what a great swimmer her dc is...then we went swimming together and her dc can't swim at all....maybe her definition of swimming is splashing in the kiddie pool but mine is being able to stay afloat without the use of a floatation device [ Reply | More ]

That is so crazy. I had trouble reading in first grade. I got a teacher I love, learned, and eventually met Ramona Quimby, Age 8, my first chapter book, in third grade. Then, I never put books down. I definitely wasn't reading at 4, but I still had fun at school. If you don't allow your kid to love school, they'll never love learning. Anyway, FWIW, I guess I'm "slow" by your friend's standards, but I did eventually eek out Harvard degree, and a fantastic career, so I'm pulling through all right, nevertheless. I hope, for her kid's sake, she calms down already. [ Reply | More ]

Yes, I had a baby like that. Psychologists and Psychiatrists would often comment. A couple even mentioned participating in a study. We declined. That baby grew into an exceptionally bright dc. That is one "sign" that a person is of high intelligence - but it doesn't matter in the long run. You change your db's diapers the same as you would a child who isn't as alert. [ Reply | More ]

we had the same thing with our baby. Very relational at a very young age-- still that way. But slow to reach milestones (sitting, rolling over and walking). Not delayed, just slower. I think it makes sense that a relational, people-oriented baby is going to reach physical milestones later because the focus is on people. People always say that our child is an "old soul"-- watching people, making eye contact. Also extremely affectionate. I used to be a little nervous that things were happening slower for her. But now, I love the fact that she is the way she is. [ Reply | More ]

Yes - my db is very affectionate and happy, too. How old is your db now? Did she try to stand at a very early age? Mine loves to stand but hates to sit and has been making strides toward pulling himself up and sitting on his own only because we have been teaching him to do it. He also does this strange move that my yoga teacher was surprised to see (and she teaches yoga for kids). He balances on his belly and wiggles his arms and legs, like he is swimming. [ Reply | More ]

everyone says this about my 5 1/2 mo also. So far he is on-track with physical milestones. Also, surprisingly tall given short families. More interested in people than anything else. When we take him to the park and put him on the swings, he's more interested in watching the other children on the swings than swinging. He also likes to touch other people a lot which can get embarassing! [ Reply | More ]

Everyone says that about our DB since he was born. Very alert. Studies faces. There has not been a person who has met him who has not commented on him being alert. He is 5 mos now (next week 5 mos). I dont know many babies so he seems normal to me. One thing he rarely cries only when hungry or overstimulated (looking at people or little cousins that are over and not napping). He giggles a lot and has for months... He has only rolled over 3 times and by accident. [ Reply | More ]

I'm not very familiar with the BOB but I take the cheaper one in case it gets bashed. We bought a simple folding Maclaren instead of taking our Bugaboo. It worked out about the same price as getting the travel bag for the bug and was much lighter to carry about. [ Reply | More ]

i actually only bought the BOB for my husband who is a runner- the Bug was a gift from co-workers at my work baby shower. if not i would have bought something less expensive as well. now my dc is over 2 so it doesnt make sense to buy another stroller- thanks for your comment though- it was very helpful [ Reply | More ]

it does make sense to buy another stroller actually. Your dc is going to outgrow the Bugaboo soon and a Volo would great for a preschooler. [ Reply | More ]

I haven't weight him recently, but he was 30 lbs at 2 year appointment. My DS's legs were squished against the seat in front of him in the Sit N Stroll on the plane. He was most comfortable in his own seat with just a seat belt. [ Reply | More ]
