It's such a myth that Spence only accepts 98 and 99's. That 95 is too low. Bunch of crap. [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

I think people just go from their own experience and then think it must be true across the board. They had a dd who got 95 and was either accepted or WLed at all the top girls' school, but rejected from Spence, then it must be that Spence only accepts 98+ . . [ Reply | More ]

yes I agree that many ppl think their experience will be the same for everyone but I've also noticed a lot of new applicant parents who speak with such certainty about schools because of what others have said or they have read..but it's all hearsay. I always suggest for a parent to tour and make up their own minds because what's good for my dc isn't nec. good for your dc [ Reply | More ]

That could be any number of posters - there are many claims, about many different schools being "the best" [ Reply | More ]

I read about 7 TTs and so on but there are certain moms who insist their school IS the best. Haven't seen so much of that from others. [ Reply | More ]

or: ita. I love our private school BUT that's me and from my dc experience. I know enough to not even dare make an ignorant statement as oh my school is the best, blah blah blah..because it's great for their dc but not for all children. I felt this way about NEST. I live nearby, didn't like it for my dc but I'm glad that my neighbors are happy with it [ Reply | More ]

>I know Spence did not do well with exmissions this past year and I can see they want to only cream the top but it's ridiculous to say 95 is too low. [ Reply | More ]

Huh? They did fine with college placements. [ Reply | More ]

That is correct. It is also true that Spence is more score-centric than some of the other schools are, which is not the same thing as taking only 98s and 99s. [ Reply | More ]

Spence does quite well with exmissions every year. People are misinterpreting the fact that it was not in the most recent WSJ ranking, which was because the graduating class that year had less than 50 students and the ranking only included schools with 50 or more in the graduating class. Same thing happened to Collegiate a few years back and you would be hard pressed to say Collegiate has a problem with exmissions! [ Reply | More ]

And yet Spence's SAT scores are high - but not that high. [ Reply | More ]

What does that have to do with the original post? In any case, ALL schools (even third tiers) can be more and more selective and cherry pick the best of the best on account of the increasing number of applicants. [ Reply | More ]
