we had gl with sitter city. we also posted to NYU, where we found kind of crappy choices (people were late, didn't want to commit to semester even though posting asked for commitment). we had gl with barnard too. we also use the school's after school program. [ Reply | More

I finally packed a knapsack for him and said I would miss him terribly and I love being his mommy - he actually was going to leave himself, pushed the elevator button...my dh went downstairs with him. hmmmm... interesting. My 3.5 yo is doing the same thing and tells me I'm ugly and fat and that he doesn't love me. Every morning he apologizes about it and hugs me but by the end of the day he says the same again. My DH has talked to him about it. We think he does it to try and get a rise out of me. Honestly, no. About half don't work at all, of the rest, many sort of kind of work (they are "freelance" decorators or lawyers who do a house closing twice a year), many of the FT WOHMs work locally while PT WOHMs are split b/w local and Manhattan. But in the neighboring town, which is less affluent, there are a lot of families where both parents work full time in Manhattan and commute daily. [ Reply | More

There are a lot of SAHMs in my town (majority)...but also a good number of WOHMs (I'm never the only one in DC's classes). I work locally -- and so do a lot of other women -- but it also depends on the field (I'm in education and had plenty of local options -- someone in finance would really be better off in NYC). It's an affluent town and a lot of the commuting WOHMs work PT or have job flexibility. Most dads commute to NYC. Town is known for the easy (and quick) commute. [ Reply | More

op-i know i will come off sounding snotty but..he is just not smart enough for me, energetic enough, i think has too many insecurities that have led to him not being where he should be professionally,he's too uptight, etc etc...and my life with him is just "less then" I feel it could be, should be. i worry - I am at an age where i can still build a new life...but if i wait and am much older - my options will be much fewer...i will be stuck with him. sounds awful right. but the truth is also - we have had such a shaky history..b/c of his issues.
