[ - ] DS is 8 mos. Looking for playspaces/clases for nanny to take him to for Fall. Any thoughts/suggestions about Appleseeds (joining or just taking classes?), Gymboree, NY Kids Club, etc ... While out on maternity, took DS to gymboree (loved it), the Y, and Real Birth. Want nanny to have things to do with him. Nanny will be with him Mon-Thurs, how many classes would you enroll DS in for nanny? I'm thinking 1 or 2. Thoughts? 3 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

Are you close to appleseeds? I joined when dd was about 8 mos and it was worth every penny. But we live 2 blocks away and nanny or me took dd every day. At this age, I'd just join and use the playspace. Maybe in another 4 mos, take a class at appleseeds...they have a member discount. Also if you are in chelsea, there is a great Music for Aardvarks class on 26th st. [ Reply | More ]

music together has classes in gramercy-erin lee kelly is a good teacher and is in that area. I think MT is good for babies and toddlers. joinign a club is a good idea-esp if they have drop in stuff and a playspace. it is good for hot and cold weather. i would also look at the library for reading hrs or kids' events (ours has a book babies, which is great). Join appleseeds playground and sign db up for music together once a week there. Appleseeds is MUCH nicer and cleaner than any of the other Music Together or Aardvarks spaces in the neighborhood. Your nanny will probably be at the playground there every single day, it will be totally worth it. And they'll make friends. [ Reply | More ]

[ - ] What would you do. Our nanny has taken care of our 2 dcs since they were a few months old (4 years). We have a close relationship and know her 2 kids pretty well. We have always paid her per hour, with an agreement that she takes time off as needed (and we find coverage at our expense) but we do not pay her for sick days or days that she takes off. She called tonight, very upset, because her 16 year old daughter was molested and I spoke with her and her daughter about what happened (she wanted to talk to me). Her daughter feels guilty about several different things and I was reassuring her that she didn't do anything wrong. She seemed very stressed about her mother losing a days pay in order to deal with this incident with her next week. Would you offer to pay for her salary for the day - we will have to also pay someone else for the day. 4 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

I guess some people have no troubles bf. I had lots so the pump was a life saver...too much milk so I had to pump, infection so I had to pump...you can prolly wait and see if you have issues or not, and if not then hold the purchase until you need it. They dont recommend stockpiling milk so dont buy it for that reason alone [ Reply | More ]

I used mine from the very beginning. First to encourage supply and because from pretty early on, I pumped one bottle at night then my mother or dh gave to db later that night. Then I built up a good supply of frozen breast milk that we rotated through so that when I was back at work, we used some of it and then after I stopped nursing and pumping, db still had breast milk for several weeks. I used the Medela Pump and Style Advanced and it worked really well. [ Reply | More ]

I successfully bf for a year. Don't pump in the beginning. Let your baby and your body work out your supply. That is what nature intends. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Wait until after the six week growth spurt and then you can play around with and manipulate the system. Good luck. [ Reply | More ]

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO - your cm starts out thick and cloudy, as time goes on it gets clearer and stretchy (you can put it between your thumb and index finger and stretch them apart and it will strecth not snap to one finger or the other. You ovulate when it is at its stretchiest and clearest. After that, it goes back to cloudy and blobish. They process usually takes about a week. Read, taking charge of your fertility or how to choose the sex of your baby - they both have great chapters on cm. [ Reply | More ]

This happened to friends of ours and they are managing. It isn't easy but they seem happy. They both work full time and have a nanny who takes care of all three. In the evenings and on weekends, they either all hang out or one parent usually deals with the toddler and one with the twins. [ Reply | More ]

I think uniforms sound great at first (one stop shopping, no thinking/fighting in the morning, etc). But they end up being are more of a hassle then they are worth. DH forgets to take in the drycleaning, so no clean khakis, etc. And there is always at least one child too heavy for the uniform. My heart breaks for that child. [ Reply | More ]

I used to wear a skirt suit everyday for work when that was the norm. Even though I bought beautiful suits, they came to feel bland and dreary. I would just wake up and throw it on. I think you underestimate how this can make you feel about your body and yourself. It was easier, sure. But it really made things colorless. didn't really think about it or realize it until flexibility became possible in my work world. [ Reply | More ]

That wasn't my experience. Perhaps not having to worry about the clothes I was wearing freed me up to focus on the more important things in life? Besides, it's not like kids are in their school clothes 24/7--they have plenty of time to dress as they like. [ Reply | More ]

Love uniforms. The kids don't get to compare labels (at least not for clothes), and it lends an air of school cohesiveness, which should not be underestimated. I agree that especially in the lower grades, kids really don't care about being bland and dreary. [ Reply | More ]

But in lower grades kids wear whatever parents buy for them so it's not an issue either way. It's the later grades when you see kids dressing inappropriately and when uniforms would be of use. [ Reply | More ]
