some kids are not swing kids, i would try out a friends and then decide. if your kid likes it they can stay in it for up to one year. it can be a true lifesaver. [ Reply | More ]

The whole idea of gifted and talented kindergarteners is pretty ridiculous. At that age, no matter how "gifted," it's all about socializing anyway. Academics don't become an issue much before third grade. [ Reply | More ]

It's about segregation! It's about not socializing with the "riff-raff". Gifted and Talented in early childhood should be abolished! Then schools would improve when all children are integrated into the same classrooms! [ Reply | More ]

doubt it. The middle and upper middle class will not send their dc to a failing school. They will either move or go private in NYC. The g&t program gets (and their time and money) in the system and tries to turn around schools one at a time and it works. PS6, PS116 - PS11 soon to be added to the list. [ Reply | More ]

don't be crazy, they need the time to just hang out. and remember, the kid is only 1 month, everything is stimulating and new. i did this with my first child and he is great playing on his own and i think that is very important. [ Reply | More ]

[ - ] I have a 2.5 yo and 6.5 yo. I am interviewing for a job that will pay about $125K-$150K a year - with enormous room for growth with a global org. The job will require I leave my home @ 7:30 AM and commute for an hour and leave office @ 5:30 Pm and commute back to just barely wash kids and off to bed. Right now we need the money - but frankly the job is also such a stretch for me - - I have been out of the work force for about 5years and although I could of this job it would be a lot of stress and a lot of "personal stretching." I am 38...and also have a mixed feeling about my marriage. On one hand I feel like I need to really go for it (and will probably get it) b/c future w/dh is shaky...on the other hand, I really do not want the stress, exhaustion and misery of missing my children's lives. What the hell do I do? 10 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

Other option: shorten your commute in some way. But also, those 1-2 trips a month to the west coast are going to practically cost you a week each time. [ Reply | More ]

you should do it esp. if you are shaky with your dh. make sure you get a great nanny that you trust. One of your dc is already in school and the other one will be in preschool soon but it's not every day that a company takes a chance on someone who was out of the workforce for 5 years! even if you do it for a year, you will have something on the resume and can look for something else. It sounds like you are going to go for it. It WILL be stressful, but also rewarding. It will be a hard transition for your kids, but they'll be OK. You should have a long talk with DH, though. A new job, big career transition AND a divorce would be really awful. [ Reply | More ]

You should also talk with DH about who is going to take care of DC if one of them is sick or if nanny calls in sick, etc. Some workplaces have emergency day care, but that won't work if DC is sick. [ Reply | More ]

[ - ] i'm still exclusively breastfeeding my 9mo. i haven't used a drop of formula. but i wonder if she's getting enough from my milk. i b/f 5 times a day. is this fine or should i supllement with something, even formula (she's allergic to cow's milk though, so it would have to be a soy one)? 7 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

so sick of this breastfeeding issue. If she's not getting enough, supplement with formula. I have two ds. Breastfed one, not the other. Both are perfectly healthy and seemingly well adjusted. I think it is ridiculous. [ Reply | More ]

Is she losing weight? What is making you concerned? At 9mo your dc should be eating a good range of solid foods (although her allergies do make things harder). [ Reply | More ]

I ebf two babies past 12 mos. She doesn't need additional formula, but you should introduce water in a soft-spout cup or just an ordinary cup. At 9 mos it will be more about learning how to drink than getting liquids. I'm assuming you are introducing "solid" foods on a normal schedule in addition to breastfeeding? [ Reply | More ]

Just keep an eye on him and don't let him run about too much. If it's not better tomorrow I'd call to Dr. My toddler did something similar and limped for a couple of days but only when he remembered too! I'm not suggesting your dc is faking but they will do anything for a reaction. Hope he feels better soon. [ Reply | More ]
