I was you two weeks ago. It really does get better, just know that the first week or so is a bit brutal as your body figures out how much milk the baby needs. Make sure to pump BEFORE your breasts become as hard as rocks; otherwise, you risk getting mastitis. [ Reply | More ]

i had it with my first-pretty severe. with my 2nd, I had changed jobs to something less stressful, i had found a good therapist, i did yoga. with the 2nd dc, you also do not have the adjustment to motherhood that you have with your first. I still had some tough times but I was in a better space when I had my 2nd dc. I want to go for a 3rd now (2nd dc is 2), though not sure. [ Reply | More ]

[ - ] So I had a C-section a couple of weeks ago. I have been told I can't lift my first - 40lb dd. I couldn't go to a family function, and DH was relaying a story to me... a friend was telling him "Oh, I lifted both my older kids after my C-section, even though they told me the same thing". How to interpret this? WHY is DH sharing this stupid story? Is it hormones making me over-react, or do I have a right to be pissed? It's like he's telling me I am making a big deal of the C-section and should pick up dd? WTF? 5 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

take it from me. you are way overreacting. take a deep breath, take it slowly. do what you feel comfortable doing. besides which, your 40yo has to be old enough to manage much on her own. [ Reply | More ]

take a deep breath. (sorry for the wrong assumption. i have a 3yo and a 5yo who aren't even close to 40 pounds yet!) it's hard having two under two, it's hard having a c-section, it's hard having a newborn. combine it all together and you are going to need to stay calm over the stupid stuff. and believe me, your dh telling you that someone else lifted kids before the doctor's ok counts as a stupid stuff. Try not to worry about anyone else and just take care of yourself. Tell you DH--very kindly & calmly--what you need to get stronger. I haven't had a c-section but had a surgery w/ a similar incision & procedure. I was a personal trainer @ the time, very fit & healthy. I had a rough recovery and could barely walk right afterwards, let alone pick up a toddler. And they told me not to lift anything that weighed more than 10lbs. Hang in there, and good luck w/ both kids. [ Reply | More ]

hi all -- so i'm 10 weeks with my first. i went to a doc at weill-cornell, who was extremely thorough in her initial exam, but i was very uncomfortable with her answers about delivery style. she was dismissive when i asked about whether an IV and constant monitoring was required -- "This isn't a birthing center, and you wouldn't run a marathon without fluids." I did some research, and decided on the birthing center at SLR. [ Reply | More ]

OP here again, sorry, the kid hit return! So, more on Moritz. He was fantastic. He's not a worrier. But he's incredibly capable, smart, and responsive. I had an easy pregnancy and I went with the midwives in his office, but anytime there was a question he made time to see me right then. And twice after the birth, even though he wasn't the one who delivered me, I've had to email him a concern late on a Sunday night. He's gotten back to me within 20 minutes both times. I can't recommend him highly enough. and P.S. - the wait times weren't nearly as bad as you'll read. The longest I ever waited was 45 minutes, and that was for Sandy Woods. Good luck! hi all. pregnant with my first, 10 weeks along. i first went to see dr. sharma at weill-cornell, who was extremely thorough, but dismissive of my questions about labor. after some research i decided i'd prefer the birthing center at SLR. i went to see dr. moritz a few weeks ago, and came away incredibly concerned. he didn't do a physical exam, didn't do a history, and didn't do a pap smear, even though i told him it had been over three years since i'd had one. he had pics of celebs on his walls, and talked about book parties instead of my pregnancy. now i just don't know what to do. should i stick with the extremely competent doctor when it's not the delivery style i want? go with dr. moritz, even though i don't feel like i got a good exam at all? or try someone new? (i was thinking of dr. bradley, also at the birthing center. ) please help! thanks. [ Reply | More ]

He was my OB, he's fantastic. He didn't end up delivering my baby though, but his whole group is very competent. My guess is he probably sensed how nervous you are and was trying to get you to lighten up a bit. If you want the birthing center though, maybe you should see the midwife he works with, I talked to her once and she seemed nice. Basically if you need more medical attention, if you are breach or something for example, then Dr. Moritz will take care of it. [ Reply | More ]

I would try the birthing center at St. Lukes--ask around and find a good midwife. I've delivered twice at Cornell, and they really want to get those tubes in you. I had natural with the second, and still had to have the iv fluids. Cornell's really not "all that," if you know what I mean. Even if you skip the epi, it's going to be a highly medicalized experience which isn't for everyone. [ Reply | More ]
