No! Nothing like that! She watches one Baby Einstein video before bedtime. She loves it, but she also loves moving around, and sometimes, I need to leave the room (have two other small children), so I need something that is safe. A PnP is good, but I like the idea of a chair so that she gets the idea of sitting down to watch her video. I know that seems a little forceful, though, but my other kids walk around their videos and it kind of drives me nuts ... [ Reply | More ]

There are different cultural norms in wedding gifts. IN some cultures, it is accepted/expected that people will give cash for the reasons you have alluded to. [ - ] How would you handle this? DH and I are really, really TTC. Right now, I'm in the 1ww for this cycle. Anyway, my dear friend and I had planned to take a trip this summer, and she is trying to pin me down on a date, and says the wknd of 8/2-3 works best for her, and it sounds like it may be the only wknd she can do. The problem with that weekend is that, if I don't get pregnant (my period is due next weekend), that weekend falls right in my fertile window before ovulation (I usually have high fertility days 7-9/10 or so, and ovulate on either the 10th to the 11th or the 11th to the 12th (I use the CBEFM so you are shown 2 O days). That weekend falls on days 8-9. Do I tell her I can't give her a date yet? Should I be honest with her? Is that tacky to say? I mean, I just don't know what to say. AND, I have been really looking forward to our trip! So, it's not that I don't want to go. Thoughts, ladies?! 13 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

Not true -- vaccinations aren't 100A% effective, and the more ppl are vaccinated, the more protected we all are (vac and not). If it were 100% ppl might not be as concerned. BTW there are kids who are too young for certain vaccines so you are at risk during the pre-vax time. [ Reply | More ]

The facts on vaccinations, their actual efficacies, true necessities and harmful side effects are not conclusively, scientifically proven. What is proven is that overmedicating the globe, particularly industrialized nations has lowered immunity, seen rises in pandemics of drug resistant strains and mutations and resulted in massive profits for fearmongering pharmaceutical interests. Until it's law, different courses for different horses. [ Reply | More ]

I started not wanting to vaccinate my kid -who should be born this summer- because I read the book "what doctors may not tell you about children's vaccinations", by Dr.Stephanie Cave. I am torn between delaying vaccinations for a few years and not vaccinating her/him at all. The percentages of kids that actually get these diseases are so low -especially here in little Missoula, MT- that I dont think it's worth the risk of injecting my kid with aluminum, formaldehyde, ethylene glycol (aka antifreeze) and other crazy things also used to make dyes, disinfectants, preservatives and germicides that I dont even allow in my house, just to protect them from something they might not ever get. Plus, she/he will not be going to daycare, and she'll be homeschooled, so it's not like I'm putting anybody else's kids at risk. I am still deciding and finding out more about vaccines. Maybe there is a brand out there that is not as harmful. I would have to do more research. The one vaccine I dont think she/he will ever need is Hep B though. She/he can get it later on when she/he is older and makes her/his own decisions. [ Reply | More ]

At first I was skeptical of vaccines, but then I read Dr. Sears, "The Vaccine Book" and did a ton of research, and now I'm more comfortable with doing it on our own schedule. My ds got all the regular vaccines at 2 & 4 months. The porblem now is that my dh, who is an alarmist, organic, natural food, natural health, anti-medicine groupie, is totally against continuing with the vaccinations and thinks they are poison. As a result, ds hasn't had any vaccinations since 4 months and he's now 19 months! I (and the doc)tried to convince him that we need to start catching up for school, ubt he won't listen. NY has no philosophical exemption, only religious. [ Reply | More ]

[ - ] Need some advice, my ds 4.5 is still peeing in his bed at night. I was having him wear pull ups but dad is against it. I went out and bought a waterproof cover pad that is sort of luck the chucks from the hospital. Do I put it under his sheets and on top of the mattress cover? TIA 15 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

i'd do it under the sheet. and fwiw, we're having the same issue. it bothers dh that dc is still using diapers at night . most of the time she's dry and i don't think it's a big deal. [ Reply | More ]

my dd is dry about 6 out of 7 nights. but if we take off her diaper, she'll definitely wet the bed. makes no sense to me b/c i'd think it would be the opposite. [ Reply | More ]

Is your dh helping to clean up the messes and wash the sheets? If not, have him handle it--might change his mind about the pull-ups! [ Reply | More ]

poster above...i don't think that's a good idea. if that was my dh, he'd only be more insistent on the idea that this child should not be having accidents at night. [ Reply | More ]

A 4.5 yo isn't necessarily supposed to be night trained. Can take till 6 years old. Is your dh putting pressure on ds at bedtime? [ Reply | More ]

BTW he is an exdh but did not want to get into it. Putting a lot of pressure as big boys don't wear pulls ups and such. He claims that ds is dry at his house and thinks that if he gets back on track he will eventually be dry at my house [ Reply | More ]

why does he know what you are doing in your house. tell him that if ds is dry in his house, he's welcome to not use pull ups when ds is visiting him [ Reply | More ]

One of my colleagues has a son who is 6 and still using pull-ups. She says that he has sleep issues (sleeps to hard--there is a clinical name for it). It might help to talk to the ped about, if nothing else, to get your dh to relax about a pull-up. I couldn't imagine cleaning up the messes. [ Reply | More ]

be nice to your ds. mine is almost 7, and is still doing it once a week. It used to be every night. I thought the pull=ups were making him 'lazy' and got rid of them, but he was still doing it. Patience is the answer. And a plastic sheet under the sheets. Sooner or later he'll figure it out, but alarms are barbaric and the drugs some will prescribe for this don't work apparently. Some research on this was recently published -- children who wet the bed later have smaller bladders. It's possible your DH is preventing him from drinking a lot before bed? If pullups bother your DS, you might try that. And I agree with above poster: if your DH isn't using pullups successfully, bully for him. Go about your business. [ Reply | More ]

My daughter wore pullups at night until she was SIX. It is very developmental. Ask your pediatrician. [ Reply | More ]

My pediatrician, Max Van Gilder, said, for boys, it's not something easily trained; it's something that just happens and he doesn't start being concerned til at least 6 1/2 years old. [ Reply | More ]
