I know that vaccinating or (not) is a hot topic on this board. What I don't get is the parents who don't at least recognize that they are putting other people's very young children at great risk when they choose not to immunize their own. Why so thoughtless? [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

Well obviously the reason the anti-vac moms create so much turmoil here is that they know they are causing risk - and they don't care. [ Reply | More ]

yes, I guess they feel they shouldn't risk their child for the sake of your child. Makes no sense. [ Reply | More ]

It's a misunderstanding of causation and misestimation of risk. And yes, they are willing that YOU should bear the risk of their decision. Works for them just fine! If someone's unvaccinated child infected mine, I would totally sue them. [ Reply | More ]

Its worse than that. They are counting on the herd immunity to protect their child - so they want to limit their risk by leveraging yours. [ Reply | More ]

right - and herd immmunity is directly a result of herd mentality. How can we get these renegades to be more herd-like? [ Reply | More ]

Good luck with that! So just for the record: YOU have your kids vaccinated only for the sake of other kids or because everybody does it. If you did it to protect your own kids - why don't you just believe in that protection? Only the unvaccinated would get sick. [ Reply | More ]

Not true -- vaccinations aren't 100A% effective, and the more ppl are vaccinated, the more protected we all are (vac and not). If it were 100% ppl might not be as concerned. BTW there are kids who are too young for certain vaccines so you are at risk during the pre-vax time. [ Reply | More ]

The facts on vaccinations, their actual efficacies, true necessities and harmful side effects are not conclusively, scientifically proven. What is proven is that overmedicating the globe, particularly industrialized nations has lowered immunity, seen rises in pandemics of drug resistant strains and mutations and resulted in massive profits for fearmongering pharmaceutical interests. Until it's law, different courses for different horses. [ Reply | More ]

You have a very selective view of scientific "proof". [ Reply | More ]

because they are parasites who have bought in some completely non-scientific crap and won't let it go regardless of mountains of evidence against it. [ Reply | More ]

I started not wanting to vaccinate my kid -who should be born this summer- because I read the book "what doctors may not tell you about children's vaccinations", by Dr.Stephanie Cave. I am torn between delaying vaccinations for a few years and not vaccinating her/him at all. The percentages of kids that actually get these diseases are so low -especially here in little Missoula, MT- that I dont think it's worth the risk of injecting my kid with aluminum, formaldehyde, ethylene glycol (aka antifreeze) and other crazy things also used to make dyes, disinfectants, preservatives and germicides that I dont even allow in my house, just to protect them from something they might not ever get. Plus, she/he will not be going to daycare, and she'll be homeschooled, so it's not like I'm putting anybody else's kids at risk. I am still deciding and finding out more about vaccines. Maybe there is a brand out there that is not as harmful. I would have to do more research. The one vaccine I dont think she/he will ever need is Hep B though. She/he can get it later on when she/he is older and makes her/his own decisions. [ Reply | More ]

Do you ever leave Missoula? Do you hope that someday your child will want to travel and see the world? Sure, there is no need for vaccinations if you put your kid in a bubble - but don't you want your child to be a member of the planet some day? [ Reply | More ]

At first I was skeptical of vaccines, but then I read Dr. Sears, "The Vaccine Book" and did a ton of research, and now I'm more comfortable with doing it on our own schedule. My ds got all the regular vaccines at 2 & 4 months. The porblem now is that my dh, who is an alarmist, organic, natural food, natural health, anti-medicine groupie, is totally against continuing with the vaccinations and thinks they are poison. As a result, ds hasn't had any vaccinations since 4 months and he's now 19 months! I (and the doc)tried to convince him that we need to start catching up for school, ubt he won't listen. NY has no philosophical exemption, only religious. [ Reply | More ]

First of all, the only child they are putting at risk is their own. If yours is vaccinated than all you have to worry about is autism. [ Reply | More ]
