I gave up on mine. You can't change someone. Mine's different--he likes the single man life--he's not the family man, no real paternal instinct. He loves DCs, but he doesn't approach parenting with any intellect or foresight. He's just all into himself. [ Reply | More ]

some people get really uncomfortable with the whole giving out their number to strangers thing. truth be told, i'm pretty open to making new friends, but every time I've exchanged #s with a mom I meet through a class or at the park etc. I've never called and it's not bc I'm blowing her off, but in the end, there really wasn't the time for me (I was WOH 4 days) to make new friends. So maybe she's being honest. [ Reply | More ]

it's horrible everywhere i think; just don't worry about it - i think there are many other factors that play into friendships (other than yes, some moms are juts snobs) - but just lack of time, lack of sleep, schedule...it's really hard to work in new friends imo [ Reply | More ]

I thought it was fun. With #1 when I was SAHM I made a ton of new friends which I all met at venues like the Y or the playground. Maybe the neighborhood plays a role in there? I was in the East Village then (that was 5 years ago) and everybody I met was open to hang out again. Then we moved to Queens and I went to work FT. I realized, though, that now that I am SAHM again with 3 kids it is harder to make friends. [ Reply | More ]

I second that! I hate bitchy moms. When I was in Boston I met a woman and we were both ex-new yorkers (now I'm back), and went out about a dozen times. Then I posted in the moms group to see if someone wanted to take walks with me (while she was away for a while) and she never called me again. Never emailed me back. Even after I reached out a few times. Talk about a bitch... [ Reply | More ]

Struggling with this very issue in our household. You may need to scale down now, pretend your only on DH's salary. Then, with the paring-down, use the next couple of months to build a nest-egg. really couldn't afford it meaning that you'd need to sig alter lifestyle or meaning you'd end up hugely in debt? i don't think the latter is a good idea and if you are going to make major chnages to lifestyle, you may want to try it for a while and bank the 2nd salary and see how resentful you get.
