Struggling with this very issue in our household. You may need to scale down now, pretend your only on DH's salary. Then, with the paring-down, use the next couple of months to build a nest-egg. Do you work at a place that would embrace job-sharing. There are so many SAHMs that would just like a bit of work too. [ Reply | More ]

Try to work your contacts and see if there isn't a nonprofit out there that might want a highly skilled jobshare, temp, or part time administrator. I'm assuming, of course, that you have a college degree and contacts to do so. If your finances can swing PT Childcare and PT salary, go for it. [ Reply | More ]

I did for 2years but we wound up $42k in debt, because we just never seem to reduce our spending. I came back to work in Feb. so we're working on the debt and getting better at living on 1 income. This job is only a 1yr gig so we'll try it again in January. [ Reply | More ]

I think it is a really bad idea and not healthy for dc, even though that is the intention. [ Reply | More ]

If financial issues cause more tension in the household, might not be worth it, for mom or dd. That said, I would have stayed home longer if I could have (single mom, so no "everybody can" posts, thanks). [ Reply | More ]

really couldn't afford it meaning that you'd need to sig alter lifestyle or meaning you'd end up hugely in debt? i don't think the latter is a good idea and if you are going to make major chnages to lifestyle, you may want to try it for a while and bank the 2nd salary and see how resentful you get. For some people no vacations, no eating out, living in a small space is no big deal and for others it's a deal breaker. [ Reply | More ]
