You mean bear weight on his legs while held standing? I think it's normal for babies to buckle their knees at 4 mos and that bearing weight comes later ~ 5-6 mos. Do you hold DB standing a lot? If not, then he hasn't really had enough practice to strengthen his leg muscles. [ Reply | More ]

/thanks so much- yes, he cannot really bear weight. I am trying to hold him standing more so he gets strength and practice. [ Reply | More ]

Bizarre response, babies do not need to "practice" bearing weight on their legs. They will develop the strength, coordination and balance when it is time. [ Reply | More ]

How so? They do need to push against something with their feet so that they can eventually begin standing. They can also lie on their backs and kick a toy with their feet or you can apply resistance to their feet when they are doing tummy time. If they never use their muscles in this fashion then why should they all of a sudden be expected to do it when it is time? [ Reply | More ]

Well millions of years of evolution is how. babies do not go from being swaddled to walking - there are multiple steps of development that naturally generate the skills they will need. You do not need a set of special exercises, a class or even a p/t/ trainer to get you baby ready for walking. [ Reply | More ]

A lot of babies now skip the crawling stage because they do not spend time on their tummies because of the "back to sleep" rule, plus they are always sat in car seats, bouncy seats and swings. I am not promoting that the child needs to be prepped for walking, simply stating that if they are placed in different positions, they will naturally explore their new surroundings and at the same time, build their muscle strength. [ - ] a former colleague of my husband's got married earlier this year and we are yet to receive a thank you note. it was a big greek wedding where we gave $200 cash in a card - while i know most couples would love cash as a present i was sort of surprised when my husband told me there was no registry and we were giving cash because that's what the groom told him was done at greek weddings. does anyone know if thank you notes are not done for gifts at greek weddings? i guess i wouldn't feel it was as crass not to send a thank you note if this was also what was done at a greek wedding. 15 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

I've heard that Greek weddings are very large and it's possible that the bride is still trying to get her Thank you notes done without any help from her DH. I think there is 2-3 months grace period to get wedding thank yous done, but they might be very busy and just behind. I was married in August and a grad student at the time and just couldn't get everyone's done immediately because I like to write a lot in the card. I ended up combining the last of my thank yous with Christmas cards. [ Reply | More ]

There is no "grace period" for saying thank you. A note takes 2 minutes so writing thank you to 150 couples takes a crappy afternoon of sitting down and getting it done. Not fun, not romantic but simply the only acceptable way to appreciate the gifts you have been given. Frankly, anything less - 6 months late, combined with something else, etc. - is tacky and gross imo. [ Reply | More ]

[ - ] I am renting a 2 bedroom with a detached studio apartment for a live in nanny (whom I have not yet hired). I am also going through a divorce, and the Judge has ordered that I pay for hubby to visit our child seven days per month (he lives out of state). I am to pay his airfare, hotel & food for the 7 days he's here. In order to save $$$, I'd like him to stay in the detached studio apartment and have the live in nanny move into my child's room (child would stay in the studio with daddy for that 7 days) for that week. Is that something a nanny would accept? 23 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

DB having problems falling asleep for naps and so I've started giving her a pacifier after she lays down in the crib. She'll usually suck/chew on it for 1-5 min. and then spit it out. I think sometimes it helps her soothe herself to sleep, sometimes not. But I only want to use it for nap soothing since I've been having lots of problems getting her down. DB is now 6 mos old and was never interested in a pacifier until now (she sucks on her fingers and toys). When she was 3 weeks, she would stay on my breast and suck and that continued until ~4.5 mos.
