[ - ] My nanny wants to scale back from 5 days to 3 days. Not ideal for me but bc i like her, I'm going to try it and find someone else for the other days. Question: what vacation/benefits do most part-time nannies get? We have been generous under full time scenario (about 6 weeks paid vacation, 10 pesonal/sick days per year, etc.) I don't think she should get same perks under part time scenario but i also want to be fair. Thanks for opinions... 2 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

You should pro-rate everything at 3/5 (or 60%). For vacation, it's generally the same "weeks", since each week is shorter, but sick days and personal days are less. Also, we had a 3 day/week nanny (we shared) who was with us on Mondays and we agreed she could take 3 of 5 Monday holidays but not all of them. [ Reply | More ]

I think 6wks paid vacation and 10 personal days is VERY generous. Many I know only get 3wks vacation and a couple of personal days. I agree though that whatever you would do for a full time nanny you pro rater that for part time. [ Reply | More ]

I had to trade in my Bugaboo for a P&T when #2 arrived. As a single stroller I prefer the Bug but in hindsight it would have been totally fine to get the P&T straight away. The wheels on both are big so there's not problem going over rough ground. [ Reply | More ]

If I were to take our photographs and put them in plastic airtight containers with moth balls (to kill the beetles) would the moth balls hurt the photographs? TIA 7 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

carpet beetles look like tiny tiny beetles. They fly too. The larvae is a worm like beige thing. When you have holes in your clothes and blame moths - it is usually carpet beetles. You sometimes see the leftover little casing (like a snake shedding its skin) from the larvae in your sock drawer. They don't have a lot to do with carpet - but they can lay eggs in some rugs [ Reply | More ]

clean the photos, put them in sealed plastic without mothballs, and get an exterminator. We had them, now they're gone. We kept photos and loose paperwork in sealed plastic for a year. Vacuum LOTS and seal and throw away the vacuum bag every time (otherwise you'll vacuum them up and they'll crawl right out of the vacuum). [ Reply | More ]

[ - ] A friend of ours recently brought up a good point - how will we deal with our baby's laundry? We don't have laundry in our building, so we drop it off at a cleaning service. But when we asked the cleaning service about soft detergents for baby clothing, they looked at us like we had two heads! Surely, someone has figured this out? We live near 70th and Columbus, so we are hoping to find something nearby... perhaps a place that we can still drop off, but that's sensitive to these needs? We are first time parents - we think this is something to be concerned about.... right??? 18 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

I agree with above. We dropped off our laundry, and did db's laundry ourselves. It's not that big of a deal -- just make sure you get alot of onesies, etc., so you only have to do it 1 x/week (and db's laundry won't be much since it's so small). Or just wash in regular detergent, as we did with db #2. [ Reply | More ]

First, please don't worry, my old building had three little kids and no laundry. My whole family tried to paint a picture in which my child would throw up over everything and i would need to get it washed immediately, blah, blah, blah and it was fine. You can bring your own dreft type detergent to almost anyplace. Clothes are so cheap at that age (if you want them to be) so it's fine. [ Reply | More ]

NO, Anderson does not handle private busing. Leave Marcie alone. Donna can hook you up with other families in your neighborhood but the school does not arrange any private busing, period, end of story. They are having a hard enough time with yellow busing outside the district! In the Bronx you should get the number for Baker Bus. Other than that I don't know of other borough families doing this.
