[ - ] My 7 mos old ds fell off the bed. We called the pediatrician. He seems fine but I am worried. He has a raised pink bump over his left eye where he hit the floor. He stopped crying almost as soon as I picked him up and was smiling again. He was on his hands and knees when I picked him up. I am angry at myself and DH and beating myself up about it. 2 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

Our daughter did same in early months and she's smart as a tack. Just watch for vomiting or excessive sleeping. Then go to e.r. to rule out concussion. Otherwise, forget it. It happens to everybody. [ Reply | More ]

[ - ] My dh means I have a anger problem, I mean it is just due to that I am exhausted taking care of our 8 month old by myself. I have neither sets of grandparents here and I am by myself for 12 hours. His mother came visiting, but that just added to the workload for a week and today (Saturday) I just got pissed off because again, I can't have a break but have to clean, organize and help him interact with the baby. This is quite normal, compared to the other mothers I have talked to - yes? I just need some alonetime. 9 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

Leave him alone with the baby and go out to do something relaxing for yourself. He won't do things exactly the way you want him to. But he will rely on you to facilitate his parenting unless you step out of the picture for a little while. [ Reply | More ]

I have a similar situation. SAHM and DH is gone for 12 hrs a day during the week. I get up with DB at 6am and DB is asleep by the time DH comes home from work (I am lucky that she sleeps well through the night). On the weekends, DH wants to get things done around the house, which means that yet again, I am with DB all day. I also need to figure out how to get some alone time and I understand that it is harder to get since I am EBF. [ Reply | More ]

You should not be concerned about school yet!! 7 month olds are just beginning to crawl, sit in a swing, etc. Enjoy the present! Maybe think about a music class like Aardvarks for the socialization. Otherwise, parks and playgrounds and music and balls and maybe some board books are the best thing right now. Tell him you have 2-3 years before needing to think about preschool. [ Reply | More ]

tell DH that you will work on this TOGETHER when the time comes. There's nothing you or your dh can do until next year, so tell him to stop freaking out. Enjoy this year, and then next summer, get the Victoria Goldman book about NY preschools, figure out which schools you want to apply to and then apply. I knew someone like this - her DH wanted her to try to start making connections at the various preschools even when her db was a baby. ICK. Totally useless also, by the way, since the only connections that matter are the ones you already have. [ Reply | More ]

I'm not sure what one has to do with the other. In NYC a stroller takes a beating. Some moms spend a lot of money on them to prove they have money. sounds like you need water, but use ice water (particularly in this heat), also, make sure your surface is floured, but not too much, when you roll do not apply too much pressure and lift before you get to the edge (if that makes and sense) and also good to use one of those rolling sheets that you can rotate as you roll to keep pressure even. I am a great baker, but rolling pie crust is my nemesis. It is actually a running family joke - my sister is blessed with her rolling skills, which she inherrited from my mom and I did not. Give it all to Salvation Army, and anything good sell on Ebay. Then your brain will be in the mode of looking at things with the attitude of "Do I need it? You can't look at the big picture here. OK - you have to start small. Commit. Start small. Ask dh to give you three hours every Saturday. Plan the one place you will deal with in that three hours. The job has to be finished in three hours! I always start at the front door and work my way into the house. Next week, make it your plan to completely organize the foyer. If there is a coat closet - go thru them and get rid of, pack the suitcases in the suitcases etc. That is ALL you have to do. Organize the foyer. Next week - its the kitchen. NO piles, no moving around. If it goes it has to go that day. HAS to. Put it on Craigs list and if not gone by 7:00pm, put it on the street. [ Reply | More ]

How old are the kids? It mostly gets easier as they get older. I do have help (cleaning 2x a week) but I have to take care of all the stuff. We moved last year and I tried to streamline, but I'm still trying to weed things out. I try not to get them too many things. Try to enforce the one thing out at a time rule and have the kids clean up & put away what they have out. The one thing I haven't tamed is the pile of papers in the kitchen--I just keep ending up w/ odd things that don't have a place. But one thing that helped is at the beginning of the school year (last year) I made two binders--one for DS's elemantary & one for DD's preschool--and put all the papers in there so I could find numbers, dates, easily. And I try to think about where I will use something when I find a place for it. [ Reply | More ]

My 18mo ds was very active and by far more interested in gym than music or art classes. I used to take him to two classes a week. [ Reply | More ]

[ - ] Can anybody tell me about VCS in West Village? DC got ERB98. Do you think they don't think we are so serious(is 98 too high too apply VCS)? How is their academics compare to LREI and Friends S.? 9 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

Got in with a 99 last year, so I don't buy the "wont take you seriously". But the academics are not as strong as Friends and some others, and prob some of the publics in the area. If you think dc needs extra attention in may be worth the money. [ Reply | More ]

Village Community Sschool is a progressive school with blended classrooms (two ages in one classroom). There's a mixture of experienced teachers and newer teachers. The school gives teachers a great deal of lee-way in setting the social studies curriculum. In the past, some of the year long subjects studied by children have included The Great Migration (of African Americans from the South to the North) and the four corners area of the U. S.. I think there was a new admissions person this past year and the school required ERBs for the first time. [ Reply | More ]

Not thought of as being terribly academic. Many neighborhood DC choose public over VCS. [ Reply | More ]

Aquaphor sensitive baby wash is the only wash I've found that is fragrance free. Works pretty well too. [ Reply | More ]

Yes, I don't know if other products work better for cradle cap since our DD had a bit of cradle cap using both Aquaphor wash and J&J head to toe when she was ~1-4 mos, but now she doesn't anymore (5 mos). I never put any baby oil/mineral oil on her scalp and the cradle cap seems to have gone away on its own. DBs skin does not dry out with either of these washes and I've never used lotion on her so I'm happy with both. [ Reply | More ]

Yes but California Baby has either tea tree oil or lavender oils in it - not good for babies since they are estrogen mimics. [ Reply | More ]
