Tell your mom that while that was the belief when she raised babies, it is not the belief now. Not all babies need pacifiers. My two never got used to one, and my second actively disliked it. [ Reply | More ]

Neither of mine ever pacified. get Kathleen Huggins' book "The Nursing Mother's Companion". Smile sweetly and say "Thank you for your concern." [ Reply | More ]

Sucking does soothe them so you might find them useful. If you stop after 4months it wont be that hard to ween them. [ Reply | More ]

Two of my kids used pacifiers, one did not. If the baby is not cranky or needs to be soothed, I wouldn't start it. [ Reply | More ]

DB having problems falling asleep for naps and so I've started giving her a pacifier after she lays down in the crib. She'll usually suck/chew on it for 1-5 min. and then spit it out. I think sometimes it helps her soothe herself to sleep, sometimes not. But I only want to use it for nap soothing since I've been having lots of problems getting her down. DB is now 6 mos old and was never interested in a pacifier until now (she sucks on her fingers and toys). When she was 3 weeks, she would stay on my breast and suck and that continued until ~4.5 mos. ^^ I also didn't want to get my DB stuck on a pacifier early, even though I tried it a few times when she was fussy. [ Reply | More ]
