at 43, it's not unusual to start seeing changes in your cycle. Mine started changing around 36 and now at 45, I'm going through hot flashes and 100 plus day cycles. Fun [ Reply | More ]

maybe, maybe not. Keep track of your cycle from now on. And note any other symptoms, hot flashes (did you know you can get cold flashes too? Lovely) weird pains, anxiety etc. Not much you can do about it and aging beats the alternative in my book! ;-) [ Reply | More ]

LOL! It's not that bad. We knew we couldn't have any more kids anyway, so it's not like I really want to keep bleeding every month! I know there are health issues but I have gotten much better about exercise and diet now that I have to. Not really a big issue. That website will make you feel really sane though. less estrogen leads to higher numbers of heart attacks, your risk of all types of cancers goes up. It's natural though and stress will get you more quickly than haywire hormones. Keep track of your cycle and talk to your gyno in a few months. I'm not trying to freak you out here! [ Reply | More ]

People are freaking me out (telling me things like how crazy boys are, how active, how agressive, that my home life will no longer be calm and peaceful). I have two boys (5 and 7) and a 1 yr old girl.....the girl is soooo much easier. I do know a some "calm" boys but they are few and far between. Maybe your girls will have a calming effect on him. I actually wanted a 3rd boy because I was used to boys but it is so nice having a calm girl (and she picks things up so much quicker than her brothers did). I now 'get' why more moms of girls will go on and on about how advanced their dds are. Anyway I'd also add that most of the wilder boys (mine included) have brothers 1-3 years older/younger. Most boys who are onlies seem 'calmer' and about half of the ones with just one sister are pretty calm...so just don't get preg again with another boy after this one and you'll be fine [ Reply | More ]

A lot depends on the individual kids. I have a boy and then a girl. My girl is easier in some significant ways--she's much more verbal earlier, so she's very, very articulate about everything. Her fine motor skills are better--so she potty trained earlier, completely dresses herself (top to toe-and she's 2.5). She's more agreeable in general (but I think this is just their temperment, not a boy girl thing). But the thing with DS is he is so hooked on me and so sweet with me. He's 6 and still very snuggly, draws pictures that always say "Mom" with hugs & kisses on them. He just loves his mommy. DD loves me, but it's not as fierce a bond--it's different. Both of my kids are very high energy, but in that regard he really takes the cake (that seems to be a traditional "boy" trait). [ Reply | More ]

I have boy/girl twins. My girl is the more aggressive twin. My son is a cuddler and my daughter is more independent. They are 3. I'll admit my son was harder to soothe in the beginning. Another twins mom told me boys are harder in the beginning but as they get older, it's the daughters with all the emotional drama. [ Reply | More ]

Melatonin is a hormone created by the body and in normal doses (as released by the boy) it is not toxic. In excessive doses it is in deed poisonous. It is not an FDA regulated product when sold as a suppliment, therefor no complete studies have been filed and no one knows how much is too much or what happens to melatonin users later on in life. [ Reply | More ]

but I think her main point is the fact that it hasnt been studied enough. Natural things can still be bad for you and mess up your natural levels without you knowing it. From what I know, melatonin is probably fine esp in small doses, but you never know. And "natural" does not mean it doesn't have side effects or harmful effects that may or may not be known. Thats all [ Reply | More ]

DD is 4, doing 2nd and 3rd grade math workbooks at home, loves math, not above average in other areas, just normal. 98 ERB, well behaved, no FA. Verbal seems prety normal for NYC private school pool. Everything is pretty normal, but the math is crazy off the charts. I don't even know for sure where it is....2nd and 3rd grade books is where we've gotten to but if I were to deprive her of a summer (which I would NEVER do), I have a feeling we could be doing 4th grade math. We only work about 30 min a day. BTW, at the end of the 30 min. I'm the one who shuts it down. DD wants to keep going. NO interest in reading or sports. I have read that every private school will pull such an advanced child and have her work with a specialist (kind of like the kids who are slow and need special attention). Whether that happens for real or not, it depends. I think at TTs, you will find other kids at the same level and they will probably be grouped together. [ Reply | More ]

Actually, if you bring it up, they might think you're PITA. Don't ask about the school practice but just say dd loves numbers (somehow work into answering a general q'n)... If you ask if school can accommodate advanced kids, they might frown. Believe or not, everyone asks this and no matter how you phrase it, they know what you're getting at. I saw so many cases in tour/ Q&A and they did'nt seem to like it. Just ask here on UB and name schools and ask if this school does this or not. SAfer, imo/ [ Reply | More ]

Let it be. Let her explore math in her own way, mentor w/ a scientist or math professor, etc. when she is older. At school maybe she can tutor younger kids while her class does their math, something like that? I have no school recs, but I know that if you push her or try to take control of her natural gift, she will eventually rebel / lose interest, etc. How wonderful for dd, keep a close eye that she continues to *have fun* w/ math, discover and explore it on her own, and she can do the accelerated curriculum when she's much oldr (hs and college). true about the flight, but Alabama can be pretty obnoxious! I'm from Atlanta and love the south, but I can't tell you how happy I was this afternoon to see that city skyline! Civilization! Yippee! [ Reply | More ]

hard to imagine a woman in big law or ib, let alone politics, with the name Poppy. Don't do it. Name her Penelope or some such and call her Poppy if you are wedded to the name. -np [ Reply | More ]

[ - ] Anyone w/ a prior c-s have staples? My first was w/o staples & the healing/scarring went well. This practice I'm w/ now says they like to staple (I know bec. it is faster for the OB & it pisses me off). 8 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

i had staples, too. didn't hurt, but a week later, i had blood oozing out of one side. had to have part of incision reopened to release the pooled blood. that sucked! but looking at my scar a year later...looks great! [ Reply | More ]

[ - ] To all your moms who are worried about weight issues. My doctor totally freaked me out since my db was around 5 % for awhile. I ebf up until 4 months but started to supplement, but I still managed to bf all the way up until now 8 months. I still nurse him in the morning. The point is that now he is 8 months and 19 lbs and very healthy. He has not been sick almost at all, I let the doctors and others stress me way too much. For a while everyone told me my db was small now the tell me he is big. So if that is the case with you, just ignore them - I should have done that. 10 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

op; Not the 2 year old but that 19 lbs are considered small for 8 months. I can also pork up my kid, but excess feeding as an infant creates more fat cells as adult. The main thing is that the kid is healthy and happy. [ Reply | More ]

my MIL from eastern europe thought my daughter was (she probably still does) too thin and wanted to fatten her up by giving her some eastern european delicacy of fried duck fat. At 2.2 years she 24 lbs and 36 inches. the pediatrician says she is healthy as do i. so now when MIL says anything i just thank her but know that what i am doing is good (it took awhile to get there though to let the comments just slide, but i realized how lucky i am that she lives overseas and not in the same city) [ Reply | More ]
