a former colleague of my husband's got married earlier this year and we are yet to receive a thank you note. it was a big greek wedding where we gave $200 cash in a card - while i know most couples would love cash as a present i was sort of surprised when my husband told me there was no registry and we were giving cash because that's what the groom told him was done at greek weddings. does anyone know if thank you notes are not done for gifts at greek weddings? i guess i wouldn't feel it was as crass not to send a thank you note if this was also what was done at a greek wedding. Of course thank you notes are required. Poor manners have no ethnicity or class. [ Reply | More ]

OP- thanks. i'm thinking about it a bit more because DH met up this guy and some other former colleagues for drinks yesterday and i told dh there was nothing wrong with asking the guy if her received our card with the gift inside. dh thinks that is rude. i said it's not rude to ask if they received the card what if it was lost? No experince of Greek weddings but I know cash is a typical gift. I'd be suprised not to get a thank you note though. [ Reply | More ]

I've heard that Greek weddings are very large and it's possible that the bride is still trying to get her Thank you notes done without any help from her DH. I think there is 2-3 months grace period to get wedding thank yous done, but they might be very busy and just behind. I was married in August and a grad student at the time and just couldn't get everyone's done immediately because I like to write a lot in the card. I ended up combining the last of my thank yous with Christmas cards. [ Reply | More ]

There is no "grace period" for saying thank you. A note takes 2 minutes so writing thank you to 150 couples takes a crappy afternoon of sitting down and getting it done. Not fun, not romantic but simply the only acceptable way to appreciate the gifts you have been given. Frankly, anything less - 6 months late, combined with something else, etc. - is tacky and gross imo. [ Reply | More ]

I disagree. I like to be more personal in my note instead of thank you for the gift, it was great to see you. When I get a note like that I think it [ Reply | More ]

Good for you. I don't care what you write as long as it gets done in a week or two at the latest. Don't use th excuse that it needs to be a lavish event so its gonna take a year to get doen. [ Reply | More ]
