I knew several people (worked in an OB office) that had a prenatal diagnosis of Trisomy 18. Only 1 continued to term. Baby died a few hours after birth. [ Reply | More ]

Is diagnosis from bloodwork or amnio or ultrasound? Friend was misdiagnosed and had a late amnio and everything was fine. GL. [ Reply | More ]

OR. They site religious reasons. I think they think it's their child and they would be harming it if they didn't carry it to term. They are going to have some type of funeral and name the baby. I probably would not make that decision, but I can follow their thoughts. [ Reply | More ]

There was a possibility of this at 5 months for me. I had amnio and turned out otherwise. Had it been diagnosed, however, we would have terminated. Carrying to term, labor, and the emotional connection that occurs in those first minutes was not "worth it" in the end for us. Either way - early termination or carrying to term - would have been devastating. Honor the baby however you find necessary. Some name the baby; some have something very special engraved (necklace, ring); some mourn in other ways (planting a tree, etc...). I am so, so, so sorry. There's no way to guide through grief other than time. [ Reply | More ]

Discuss this with their parent before you settle on the price w/the child. I made the mistake of giving my goodfriend/neighbor's 12 yr old a $25. weekly rate for cat visiting/feeding. They felt that was too much and gave a skewed impression of both neighborliness and payscale. [ Reply | More ]

I cut down gradually giving up feedings. It was once upon waking and then at night. I thought she would forget about it. I went away for a week and thought that would help. I finally explained weaning and told her she was going to be weaned soon. One day last week, I told her after that she was going to be weaned. Now, when she asks, I remind her that she is weaned now. Personally, I cannot imagine homeschooling, but that said, it seems to work best when you have a network of parents to homeschool with. One parent may have a strength in math, another in literature, etc. Someone I know has a circle of homeschool friends and together they contract specialists for foreign language, art, music. Simply because you think it doesn't make it so. There are countless reasons to homeschool - and many have nothing to do with religion. The only part of your post I am happy about is that you are a former teacher. I prefer open minded, well informed people teaching my children. NP [ Reply | More ]
