Friend's pediatrician is certainly screening for any developmental delay at each visit. Not something you're qualified or expected to diagnose for friend - particularly by soliciting input from an anonymous message board. [ Reply | More ]

Mine too until I got pregnant with #1. Then for some reason I desperately wanted a girl, which thankfully I got and she's an absolute dream. #2 was a boy who's so wonderful I couldn't wait to have another. Pregnant now with #3 and I don't care what it is because I'm just still so thrilled that #1 was a girl. [ Reply | More ]

[ - ] our 3.5 yo boy has recently had some bleeding when he has a bowel movement. There's no blood in his stool, nor any worms or anything unusual, but it shows up on the toilet paper. We thought it was maybe hemmoroids, especially as he was complaining for a while about itching back there. But recently the complaining has stopped, he seems entirely normal otherwise, and we don't see any unusual redness or swelling. But the bleeding persists. Any thoughts? TIA. 9 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

our DS also had bleeding when he was about 3 yo and ped. said he was dehydrated which caused bleeding but 6 mos. later DS was diagnosed with type 1 Diabetes (which causes dehydration when blood sugar level gets high). It was rough the first year but now he's on an insulin pump which makes it far more manageable. It's summer and your child may simply be dehydrated but to be on the safe side I would definitely ask the Dr. to check his blood sugar levels to make sure it's not diabetes. Hope everything is ok w/ him and good luck! [ Reply | More ]

If it's red, it could also be a lot of dairy in the diet. Recount the dairy consumption leading up to the bllod. Dafinitely ask ped! [ Reply | More ]

[ - ] made mistake of letting ds associate pacifier with bedtime and let it continue for too long out of convenience. now, he's almost 18 months, and i've finally decided to break the habit. so had normal bedtime routine last night minus pacifier and he was crying hysterically as soon as i left the room. let him cry for about 5 minutes but it just escalated so gave in with the pacifier. tonight, i put him down again minus pacifier but with one of his favorite stuffed animals, and he seems to have fallen asleep without a complaint. am i now creating another bad sleep habit that i'll regret later? should we just try to go cold turkey and have him CIO for what'll hopefully be just a few days? stuffed animal is very small and doesn't have any fuzz. TIA. 8 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

my dc is 19 mos. dc took a pacifier from birth. only uses it to sleep. at 18 mos appt, I asked ped about this-ped said could go either way. don't want to let it go too long but if it comforts dc, fine. i figure I will give it 6 more months and see where we are. dc only uses it at night and not to nap. tonight dc fell asleepwithout it, so maybe it will be easy (haha!) your ds is really young. I see know problem with letting dc fall asleep with a pacifier and/or a stuffed animal. Young children need comfort, and many are very oral. If you take away the pacifier, there is always a chance he will find his thumb, and that is a much harder habit to break. My ds had a pacifier (only at night and when napping) until he was 3 years old. Dentist said that as long as he stopped by 4, there most likely would not be any mouth problems. [ Reply | More ]

Pick your battles, sweetie. Nothing wrong with either f these at bedtime. 18 months is very young. Many children sleep with parents at this age. Pretty lonely with neither calming tool. Why so hardnosed? [ Reply | More ]

np and why should he not have the animal? mine has slept with a dirty cloth (don't ask!) since about 5 months--a spit cloth he loved as an infant. It's great for them to have something to comfort themselves with. [ Reply | More ]

I am 28 now. I quit because I had a problem with drugs mostly and figured I would become an alcoholic if I drank. I was in a different place then too and probably could handle it okay now but it's not worth it to me to find out, in case there is a problem. [ Reply | More ]

yes i have gone for almost 20 years, it helped me with so many things, issues w/growing up and being a good person, but honestly i could never relate to the alcoholism problem. i didnt obsess about alcohol or go to extremes to get it. its daunting to think i may have spent 20 years in the wrong place but i do believe everything happens for a reason. ^^^I quit drinking (obviously not forever :)) for a few years and then drank with a lot of self imposed rules (one drink a night on weeknights and no more than three drinks in one night or 7 in a week) and now drink what I want (which is about 3 drinks a week). [ Reply | More ]
