If you could send your kids to private school in New York (grandparents pay for it) but you can't afford an apartment and would have to rent -- would you stay and rent forever or would you move to the suburbs where you could buy a house and kids could go to public school (assuming good district). It will be a different education, but your family will be better off financially, saving DC from the burden of caring for you in your destitute later years. There are always trade-offs. And, of course, there are private schools in the burbs. If the g-parents feel strongly about it, you could have both. [ Reply | More ]

Depends. If you both work in the city, I would stay because it's a huge pain for both parents to commute and you will barely see the kids. If you can get jobs in the burbs or one of you stay home, I'd likely do the burbs. [ Reply | More ]

there are picnic tables in the Pinetum (well shaded area). It is in the Center of the Park and not far from the Great Lawn and several playgrounds that are more on the Westside. The Billy Johnson Playground has one picnic table, but I don't think it is great for a party. The Hippo playground in CP has one picnic table, but not may favorite park. The best is Hippo Playground in Riverside Park. Picnic tables, good shade, good playground, good sprinkler and you can rent the little preschool house/room and there are bathrooms. [ Reply | More ]
