People are highly persuadable. Especially women searching for meaning in their lives. Most of us have probably had these brilliant little Mrs. Fields Cookies-type ideas at one point or another, but we were left to realize on our own pretty quickly that we're not all cut out to be the next great entrepreneur. MLMs are nefarious in that they lie to your face about how much money you can make, and then if you fall short of those goals they blame you for not working hard enough. Bad people. [ Reply | More ]

I remember the sales lady said if we played a game then our mom friend would get a free product but only if we "all" played the game. So the "game" was picking slips of paper out of a bowl for "prizes." There were 10 of us, fully 6 of us got "a pampered chef party for you and your friends in your home!" The other people got like 10-30% off the products, which are of course already overpriced. That mom was so embarrassed that she was the one who dropped all of us. She couldn't look us in the eye. He worked at his own pace, had a few structured classes a week with others like him, and checked in with his mentor once a week. On the other hand, there's also a group of strong students who would do just as well at Booker (I saw their works). The school scores do not paint a complete picture. I give my DC supplementary works to make sure he's well prepared. I would have done this regardless if DC is in MH or Booker. I decided against Booker because of its sheer size, and trust me, more Booker kids receive supplementary works than MH's. As far as if MH students get into good HS, certainly. I know one who got into a Specialized HS, La Guardia and the reg. HS she applied to. Bottom line is if you DC is a good student and you are a parent who keep up (not helicopter but just pay attention), I don't see why he/ she wouldn't get into a good HS. [ Reply | More ]

If you are still following this thread, 6th grade I did a variety from grammar (because I believe it's important), math (it's his strong subject and the school work was not challenging and ELA (it's his weaker subject). Just do couple pages on different subject on a regular basis. From what I know is Booker has lots of works beg of the year, then it slowed down mid year. It sounded like they just wanted to shock the new students and make sure they take their works seriously. If your DC likes structure and doesn't mind the big environment, Booker T is def a consideration. [ Reply | More ]

All the schools you mentioned are in D3, not D4. Computer is more progressive and lax environment, it would be more suited for kids who are self motivated and proactive. WESS, I don't know too much about but I know kids are happy at both WESS and Computer. I hear kids are not happy at Booker but more at the beginning of the school year. I also know kids transferred out of Booker because they couldn't catch up or didn't want the pressure but again, I know many kids who are happy there. If you live above 96 st, CSS is another option. The tours will definitely help both you and your DC to decide. [ Reply | More ]

I use the liquid. I seem to find powder leaves a bit of a residue. Was it a delicate item? Wash on a delicate setting or hand wash. I'd call the company or store and get refund. Nothing should fade so soon. Wash on cold too. Most detergent is fine on cold and we aren't rolling in mud that needs a hotter setting. [ Reply | More ]

My DCs went to 14th street Y preschool - we loved it! I get the feeling it's a little more bohemian, relaxed than the 92nd. It's a great preschool though - wonderful teachers, down to earth families. There is a Jewish bent to it but kids of all sorts go there (we are Catholic). [ Reply | More ]

completely diff. The92nd street Y is the most vaunted, overrated, full-of-filthy rich bankers school in the city. The 14th Y is very local, low key and not particularly desirable to most downtowners (Beginnings is downtown's answer to the 92nd street Y). [ Reply | More ]

[ - ] HR moms, few words of advice please: I had a phone interview last Thursday, I thought it went pretty well (but its not up to me to say) now the person in HR who had scheduled interview I had w HR director, wrote to me to say she wanted to call me later this morning to "get my feedback" on the interview. I have the call in an hour, not sure what it could mean. Also, should I prepare in some way? What should I expect? Thank you! 8 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

I used to be in a position to interview and hire people, although it's been a while (I got out of management and into a different career). This sounds like the kind of situation where the candidate think things went well, but the interviewer(s) couldn't tell. Thought maybe the candidate did not really want the job. So they looked for someone else, but in the end you're better qualified than the rest of the field. But they're not sure if they want to hire you, if you don't want the job. So they're having the person on the company team who might know you best give you this phone call, to feel you out and see if you really want to be there. I could be way off, but that's what this sounds like to me. [ Reply | More ]

op, yes I had posted last week. Thank you. I so need and want the job and like you said, could mean anything. I hope things work out. op-if you are still watching: she asked me a bunch of questions, including if I was comfortable with the project management (as apparently this was the biggest responsibility) and again how I would approach it etc. - I did not expect another interview - then she asked salary expectations and then even if there was another field in the company that I would be more interested in... ultimately that they should decide something by end of September and she will be in touch. Very strange. [ Reply | More ]

I wouldn't switch him because then it'll just be the same all over again. I had to switch my similar aged DS to a new daycare when we moved to a new neighborhood. Which was sad because we looooved the old place and DS did too. But the new place is right around the corner from our apt. And same, he cried at drop off for the first few weeks but would be fine at pick up. Eventually he got over it. [ Reply | More ]

I'm not a good gift giver. I buy things that I need when I need them. I don't attach a lot of weight or emotions to things or gifts. DH does, and it's a point of contention. It's to the point when I dread the thought of getting him a gift, because there's too much damn pressure. Is that what you want? Just let it go. [ Reply | More ]
