14th St is YMCA. 92nd St Y is an elite Jewish Y with a competitive pre-school and other draws, like celebrity speakers and major money. [ Reply | More ]

np: it always amazes me when people respond with certainty about things they don't know for certain. Why not say "oh, I didn't know that." [ Reply | More ]

There are 2 Ys on 14th Street. The McBurney Y is a YMCA on 14th St between 6th and 7th. The 14th Street Y at 1st Ave is part of UJA, they have a lot of Jewish programing. [ Reply | More ]

Yes, the Jewish “Y” is the one I’m referring to. Trying to compare the two in terms of preschools. [ Reply | More ]

My DCs went to 14th street Y preschool - we loved it! I get the feeling it's a little more bohemian, relaxed than the 92nd. It's a great preschool though - wonderful teachers, down to earth families. There is a Jewish bent to it but kids of all sorts go there (we are Catholic). [ Reply | More ]

If you're looking for preschool, just go to the one closest to your home. Also, I understand the 92nd street Y is very difficult to get into for preschool. [ Reply | More ]

^^^Also, I know a lot of families who have sent their kids to the 14th St Y for preschool and they're all lovely families. [ Reply | More ]

completely diff. The92nd street Y is the most vaunted, overrated, full-of-filthy rich bankers school in the city. The 14th Y is very local, low key and not particularly desirable to most downtowners (Beginnings is downtown's answer to the 92nd street Y). [ Reply | More ]

The McBurney Y is a privately owned fitness group. There is a building on 24th that says Y and I believe it is a residential type situation. It hasn't been functioning as a Y for at least 10 years. [ Reply | More ]

You’re incorrect. The mcburney Y is part of the NYC Ymca. [ Reply | More ]
