I get why SAHM moms who need a little extra cash are attracted to FB MLM schemes, but why would someone with a good job and plenty of money get involved in this? It is so awkward. I usually end up buying some little thing just to be polite. Maybe the business model is based on this. [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

People are highly persuadable. Especially women searching for meaning in their lives. Most of us have probably had these brilliant little Mrs. Fields Cookies-type ideas at one point or another, but we were left to realize on our own pretty quickly that we're not all cut out to be the next great entrepreneur. MLMs are nefarious in that they lie to your face about how much money you can make, and then if you fall short of those goals they blame you for not working hard enough. Bad people. [ Reply | More ]

OP: That's what I don't get. I would be so uncomfortable selling to my friends. [ Reply | More ]

A mom I once knew had a pampered chef party. Someone got her to host one in her home. I remember the sales lady said if we played a game then our mom friend would get a free product but only if we "all" played the game. So the "game" was picking slips of paper out of a bowl for "prizes." There were 10 of us, fully 6 of us got "a pampered chef party for you and your friends in your home!" The other people got like 10-30% off the products, which are of course already overpriced. That mom was so embarrassed that she was the one who dropped all of us. She couldn't look us in the eye. The "get out of working for others" mantra is such BS. They are still working for others. For whoever their "coach" is, and the company. They don't own anything. They need to hustle hustle hustle if they want to see any profit. And the only way to do that is to bring other people onto their "team". [ Reply | More ]

No they can't. 99% of the people who do MLMs make only a fraction of what they'd earn with a minimum wage job, and without benefits. [ Reply | More ]

It is so ridiculous. They all sound the same. If you look at the marketing strategies, they all have a similar sound. [ Reply | More ]

pressure from friends doing it. I know 2 people with good jobs who got sucked in by friends - I think the parties and the trips look like a fun escape, these companies put on a good show on social media [ Reply | More ]

Idk, maybe they just like the product? Bored at work and want something? I don't begrudge these things. I've bought pampered chef items, Avon etc. It's not a big deal to me. [ Reply | More ]

Because maybe they didn't have such a good job and $$$. I can't think of one reason to get involved with a MLM. [ Reply | More ]

Yes, the business model is totally based on this. I don't buy anything, even from family or close friends. I feel like it just perpetuates the MLM scams. [ Reply | More ]

My cousin too. She sent me a bunch of free samples and brochures. I wrote back and told her I was happy with my Walmart-brand products. [ Reply | More ]
