Something that might (1) be recurrent, ie, chemo or transplant or (2) indicate previous trauma, ie, accident, or (3) indicate disease. That could be relevant to the school. (I'm not an MD or an educator) [ Reply | More ]

He's expressing exactly what he is hearing. Kids need reassurance that they are not bad. You can say "no" to something while giving a choice either for something else or for having that thing later. They really thrive when given choices. [ Reply | More ]

This is why I still love UB. I also got a couple of snarky flames too which is always fun. That is also why I love UB! I say it's still great even after the new changes! 2 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

Read "Love and Logic" by Ames, "Your Four Year Old" (can't remember the author), and send her to her room every time she acts like that. However, I already do that and it's not been very successful. She whines all the time. [ Reply | More ]

This is not true. They discourage it (as most place do now) but that doesn't mean it can't be done. And instead of the principal, you should talk with current teachers and pediatrician. [ Reply | More ]

[ - ] How do you know if your child needs to be in a special needs preschool? My dd is currently 20 mos and we'll be applying her for preschool in the fall. She is in EI for global delays and isn't talking yet. But I don't know anything about special needs preschools. How do you know which type of schools to apply to? 7 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

When your dd is 27mo call your local public school and ask for a child study team evaluation. They'll probably tell you to write a letter making a formal request. They'll walk you through it from there. SN pre-school starts at age 3. [ Reply | More ]

We were thinking of sending dd to a private preschool (we live in an urban area where the schools aren't great). The app process begins before she's 27 mos. Should we apply to private preschools and then see what happens with the SN process? [ Reply | More ]

that's what I did. ds was in private preschool starting at 2.5 and then we switched to public when he turned 3 and got in. Our town has an AMAZING sn preschool! Check yours out (ask dd's therapist what they know about it, mine knew a lot), because sometimes even crummy public schools have great sn programs. It's tends to be something public schools do well. I have been so, so happy with ours. ds also has global delays and he has made incredible progress there. [ Reply | More ]
