3 yo is starting to really express himself these days...he will tell me I am a bad or mean mommy if I say no to something, I am not a nice girl, I need a punishmnet etc...How do I respond to these things? I want him to talk respectfully but I get he feels frustarted and this is how he is exprssing it [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

He's expressing exactly what he is hearing. Kids need reassurance that they are not bad. You can say "no" to something while giving a choice either for something else or for having that thing later. They really thrive when given choices. [ Reply | More ]

op: he is not hearing that from me...I always comment on the action, not on him. I think in school the kids say this stuff to eacholter and mots of his friends have older siblings [ Reply | More ]

^^^and I try to give choices but sometimes there is no choice, you know? Like if I say you cant throw that toy and he calls me a bad mommy for saying mean things to him [ Reply | More ]

this is common, my dd was always trying to put others in a time out too. just explain that you are the mom and it's your job to keep ds safe, teach him manners, etc. He is the child and needs to listen and follow the rules. [ Reply | More ]
