[ - ] 1st dc and so overwhelmed by all the books and differing opinions. Some say never wake up baby, some say wake up baby every 3-3.5 hours during day to nurse; ped says don't go longer than 4 hours between feedings during day. Have been waking her up if she is not awake by 3-3.5 hours, but am wondering if she would better fall into a routine if I just left her alone. Any advice appreciated. 5 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

It's too early for a routine so don't be concerned about that. I would go with advice of my ped but ask ped how long this advice is good for (i.e. at what point can you just let db sleep without waking). People get so worked up over this but really whether you wake or let sleep is not the biggest deal in the world (unless underweight and then you absolutely need to wakeso follow ped's advice. wait until baby is 100% better. really, when you're all stuffed up, you wake up to. How bad would it suck to wake up and have nobody to wipe your face or give you some water. And then have to cry and make yourself more stuffed....And I did CIO with 2 kids. All bets are off when they are sick though. [ Reply | More ]

Where do you get your information? Trig, pre-calculus and calculus are taught in most independent high school math programs. History and writing projects are very sophisticated (look at Fieldston's high school history offerings on their website). Some schools (Fieldston, maybe Brearley) are not offering AP courses any more because they can limit what a teacher does. [ Reply | More ]

Some do and some don't. There were some TT moms on here before who said they finished (and/or their friends) HS curriculum at 8th grade but the schools accommodated them. BTW, "typical" HS senior curriculum would include pre-calculus or AP Calculus (level A), physics, etc. [ Reply | More ]

This question gets asked so often. It's hard IMO to get an approved school on your IEP. Often this is why people hire an attorney. The other reason people use and atty is to sue for reimbursement under FAPE if they are in a non-approved school. In that case, you must pay and then get reimbursed. Or, if you choose, just pay. All the people I know at approved schools did hire lawyers, did get NPS (for non-public school) on their IEPs after no or some struggle, and then are done with lawyers basically forever, or until the kid no longer goes to that school. So it's definitely worth hiring the lawyer just so you do the application process right, do everything right, and then you are done for years and years. [ Reply | More ]

Here is a good list: In Manhattan/funded -- Reece, Parkside, Gateway, Churchill, Gillen Brewer, Herbert Birch, Learning Spring, Child School (Roos Isl.), Hawthorne Country Day. Unfunded -- Aaron, Rebecca, Stephen Gaynor, Ideal, Manhattan Childrens Center, West End Day. In outer boroughs funded -- Summit, Lowell, NYCLI (not sure if funded), League School, New York Institute for Special Education, Mary McDowell. Unfunded Gersh Academy. NJ (lots of NYC kids at these schools)-- Forum School, Community School, Alpine Learning Institute. Westchester -- Hallen School, Windward, Eagle Hill. LI Center for Speech and Language Disabilities. These schools all serve different populations. Some are for autism, some are for learning disabilities, some are for emotional/behavioral problems, some are for language processing issues. It is worth is to tour a lot of them, figure out what is most appropriate [ Reply | More ]

The only school we applied to was West End Day, per advice from David Salsberg (but it turns out ds is doing fine in public CTT).
