or: yes and no. you still need time around the house to do housework type things and you want to spend time with db. it really is difficult. but I think both ways are difficult, just different [ Reply | More ]

np: it is not quite the same as being home with kids all day. You are on their schedule, not yours. Not saying one is better or worse, just that it is different. I think it is more stressful to wohm, but more difficult to be organized when you sahm. [ Reply | More ]

i am the queen of purging so i stay organized. i throw everything away. we have no collections of things. the toys are in the toy room and that is it. everything has a place and the kids know to clean after themselves. unfortunately they are turning out anal like me. [ Reply | More ]

no. you need to get organized. everyday when you pick up the mail, you need to immediately put the junk aside. you need to take daily trips of recycling and garbage out. as for laundry i feel better doing smaller loads more frequently to get it all done. you must do it and fold and put away immediately or else it will continue to pile up. It helps if you purge in a small apartment. Can you afford to send your laundry out this once? I occasionally do this. My dd is two and we do laundry together (she puts the coins in, loads the machine, poors in the detergent - stands on a chair). I WOHM (which - not to go off topic - I think makes it easier in many respects) and I straighten every single morning before I leave and then before I go to bed. I make diner while DH does bathtime. I'm recently reformed! Take small steps to get organized (otherwise you'll get overwhelmed and give up and be back to square one). I started by tidying up before bed every PM and planning my outfits ahead of time. I've started cleaning regularly -- daily maintenance (I do it at night -- b/c I'm a WOHM and need every possible minute in the AM) and a big clean 1 day/week. I pick and choose from flylady.com (the site is a bit much, but there are some usueful suggestions). I don't mind laundry -- usually do it all on Sundays (takes a long time, but I'm compulsive about it). I send out linens. [ Reply | More ]

how many kids do you have? Because I have one, and I WOHM and I find the time. If you stay on top of it, and never let it get out of control (i.e. take hour or to clean up) than you will be fine. After DS goes to bed, DH and I spend about 20 minutes straightening. Then I do dishes, he does garbage and cleans up the bathroom, post bathtime and witin 20 minutes all cleaned up and then we relaxed. Howver, I do have a cleaning lady once a week for actual cleaing and laundry. She is worth her wieght in gold. If I had to do that stuff it would be a disaster. [ Reply | More ]

So do I, often (am SAHM). I try to do one household task each day, in addition to keeping kitchen tidy daily: laundry, putting away laundry, filing, dusting. That's about as much as I can do and it keeps chaos mostly at bay . Good luck! And for what it's worth, when I WOHMd part-time, it was almost easier to keep on top of things. Not sure why. Blurted it out to my parents and grandmother right before my grandmother had emergency surgery (I thought that she should know, just in case!) -- not the most elegant, but it turned a stressful situation happy for a moment. (She's okay.) Told everyone else casually -- led with: "I'm not fat..." (b/c I didn't look PG, but it was clear that I'd gained weight). [ Reply | More ]

Crane fell 20-25 floors at 8:15. Was an usual type of crane. News thought that damamge was just near the top of an exisiting building (330 E 91, over a Duane Reade), now see that there is damamge on lower levels as well (terraces and building chunks knocked off). Neighbors are saying they called 311 to complain. At least 2 workers killed and 4 people injured; some people have been rescued (no news on their condition). Con Ed and sanitation workers may have been working underground (nearby). Some buildings have been evacuated. [ Reply | More ]

news is saying 1 dead, the crane operator.
