Crane fell 20-25 floors at 8:15. Was an usual type of crane. News thought that damamge was just near the top of an exisiting building (330 E 91, over a Duane Reade), now see that there is damamge on lower levels as well (terraces and building chunks knocked off). Neighbors are saying they called 311 to complain. At least 2 workers killed and 4 people injured; some people have been rescued (no news on their condition). Con Ed and sanitation workers may have been working underground (nearby). Some buildings have been evacuated. [ Reply | More

news is saying 1 dead, the crane operator. I think further tragedy may have been averted, because the way it fell, pedestrians had time to run to safety. don't know about the people in the apartment, but it looks like only one apartment was seriously demolished.
