NP: I am surprised because everyone knew the situation going in. They chose to broke the rules. Both candidates knew this from the start and signed a letter stating they understood this and would abide by it in the campaign. Now to have everything turned around like this...Regardless of who one's favorite candidate is, I just don't think this is right. [ Reply | More ]

OP: It's not about the candidates at this point - or not just about them anyway. It's about not disenfranchising almost 3 million voters who turned out and cast ballots in these states. You've bought into the whole media presentation, imho. [ Reply | More ]

There is no excuse for this and if the citizens don't realize this by now, then this really is their fault. [ Reply | More ]

I didn't, no. I just can't believe how this has gotten so screwed up. And, really, you can't say that the votes that were placed then would translate now. OP: I don't necessarily disagree with you, but the fact is that almost 3 million voters (and in the case of Florida more than TWICE the number of voters than in any other primary ever) turned out to vote in good faith and should not be cast aside because Republican leadership in the state (speaking about FL here) set up this fiasco to play out this way. Oh, ita. Of course their votes should count. I can't believe that the state or the democratic party, or whoever, screwed it up so badly that the entire state voted illegally and the votes didn't count. It is mind-boggling. [ Reply | More ]

OP: it is, isn't it? It turns out that the Republican FL state legislature attached the change in date to a bill about creating PAPER TRAIL for electronic ballots - which was something that had been heavily lobbied for by the Democrats and which they would have LOST if they had voted against it. So the Republicans set this up. [ Reply | More ]

Well if they care so much about what the leadership of their state does, then they should have spoken up years ago...like 8 years ago. How on earth can one state totally "F" up elections the way that Florida does. I'm sick and tired of them whining about it after the fact. [ Reply | More ]

My in-laws live in Florida. My MIL is VERY active. OP: yeah, I agree with you. But that's the nature of humans. More people are more likely to respect authority than to question it. When I lived in Houston in 2000, they CLOSED my polling place and gave no alternative. It took me 6 hours to find someplace that I could vote. Most people of course could not and/or did not take that time (my polling place was in a primarily Democratic district - so NONE of those votes got cast). Politics is REALLY ugly at the grass roots level. [ Reply | More ]

I'm sorry...but I just don't see the point in giving him candy for doing this. He is perfectly normal and I really think this method would only be teaching him bad habits...the candy...wanting something for doing something unnecessarily. [ Reply | More ]

My dd isn't shy, but sometimes she gets snappy with people. I tell her, "It isn't polite to talk like that. Please use a sweet voice" or "Please be kind" Sure, it sounds moderate, but it works [ Reply | More ]

I think I'm trying to teach her to be empathetic more than warning her. Sometimes I tell her, "When someone talks that way to you, does it feel nice?" Just to try to get her to understand from the other person's perspective [ Reply | More ]

My dh says he was like this as a kid- he's still shy. It's just his personality, which I don't think you can change. [ Reply | More ]

I don't punish for that at all. When my kids first meet someone they're shy. But once they've been around that person for a little bit they warm up. It's fine. [ Reply | More ]

you can't punish him for it. you can talk to him about it, and keep drilling it into his head how he is supposed to act, but it may not do anything. My ds has Asperger's, and one of the exercises they do in his class is to practice meeting people. They even sing a song that goes something like, "when you meet someone new, look him in the eye, shake his hand and say HELLO!" something like that.... anyway, I wouldn't worry about it, he is probably just shy, and people will just have to be understanding that he is only 3 yo and shy. [ - ] totally MYOB, but I find it annoying that SIL can not take care of dcs by herself. When here dh goes on business trip, she has to stay with her mother. THis should not bother me, but it does. I only say this here. 7 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]
