having friends over for dinner with dcs--this is about the 5th or 6th time. I have never seen their house. I feel like I am always the entertainer...have a big holiday party every year and 1 summer party. I never seem to be asked anywhere. Ds had a playdate today--his parents have been to our place for dinners/parties--except for playdate drop offs, I have never been to their house--- tonight they are going out to dinner "with a bunch of friends" [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

Maybe you should stop being the one to do all of the work. It could also be that they don't like having company over. I know two people like this and both of their homes are absolute messes. They don't like company at all. [ Reply | More ]

If I were you and I had them over that often and they did not do the same for me...I would feel the same way, especially if they are now going to a dinner and movie with friends. You have a right to be annoyed. I do think that you should stop being the entertainer for them though. [ Reply | More ]

In our case, we can't invite people over b/c we live in a 1 br & eat at the coffee table. I don't even have enough dishes to have a couple over. We usually suggest going out, although I do feel bad not reciprocating to people who have us over to their home [ Reply | More ]

op-almost all of these families live in similar houses as ours. I just feel left out when I hear that they are going to dinner with a bunch of friends, I know it sounds silly. We moved here from out of state 2 years ago and have no family around. [ Reply | More ]

Maybe you could initiate more casual dinner dates than the big parties [ Reply | More ]

well, tonight we are having 2 familes plus dcs over..just a bbq.casual. both families have been here at least 3 or 4 times for simple dinner with dcs. They have never suggested doing anything at their house or going out..I think it would only happen if I arranged it. [ Reply | More ]

Can you ask one of your female friends about it? I know it seems weird, but just say, "XYZ, when will we get invited to your place?" [ Reply | More ]

Agree!! I am always the only one who has parties. But - I think we alsom have the biggest house of all our friends - and we have 2 kids. For me I feel it's easier/more comfortable to have people over ratehr than get a babysitter and pay to go out. [ Reply | More ]
