I had horrible sciatica with #1. Best for me was prenatal massage and heating pad on sore spots. Also yoga as a preventative. [ Reply | More ]

similar to my dcs. 16mo age gap and then 17mo age gap. it's really more manageable than you'd think. i have to go now but if you have any specific questions, i'll check this later. [ Reply | More ]

^^^i'll jsut quickly add that use easy foods as much as you can. yogurts with a straw poked through the top can be a light lunch or a great snack for dcs and it's not messy. i make pictures with noodles (different shapes) and ketchup. (like the noodles are the hair and i make a ketchup face. then they dip the pasta into the ketchup). that's another light lunch for dcs. sandwiches. hard boiled eggs. also, go for fewer clothing per dc and do small loads more often. good luck. i grew up as the middle of 3 in 3 years. it was crazy but we are all very close. try to remember to recognized each child as an individual it sounds silly but its not easy with 3 so close in age. Enjoy! [ Reply | More ]

[ - ] At what age do dc start getting orthodontia these days? I know it's earlier now than when we were dc, but how much earlier? DC just turned 7 and the dentist is saying next year we'll need to see someone about starting work on dc's mouth. At 8 yo? Is that normal? 6 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

yes, but find out why. I wouldn't do it if it were strictly cosmetic [ Reply | More ]

The dentist said dc has a couple of problems. A fairly serious overbite and she thinks from dc's x-rays that the adult teeth won't all fit properly when more of them start to come in. I guess the overbite is cosmetic and the second problem may be more serious. It just seems so early to begin. [ Reply | More ]

the trend is to begin earlier. compliance is higher, and kid will be done by middle school. dd was the first in her grade to get braces, so it was cool [ Reply | More ]

Interesting. I didn't have the impression from the dentist that dc would be done earlier, but if that's the case it's terrific. Did dd's dentist direct you to the orthodontist or is it someone you found on your own? I think part of what's giving me pause is a slight paranoia that the dentist and the orthodontist are in cahoots, trying to get the dc in there ASAP to make as much money as possible. My DD started at 6. She's way ahead in tooth development and it's obvious she will need braces. The ortho just wanted to evaluate her mouth (he suggested having two baby teeth removed that were impeding her adult teeth) and we go back next month to see if there's anything else to do [ Reply | More ]

DC is still 6 (closer to 7) and we are going for ortho consultation already. DC has jaw issues which DH also had and we need to figure out a plan to deal with it. The dentist recommended we see someone before the summer. [ Reply | More ]

the point of a timeout is not to have the child sit still. there are two possible goals of a timeout: one is to illustrate to the child that our "society" (household) has rules and if you want to be part of our society you have to follow them. the other option is to give the child a chance to calm down, learn to control himself, etc. Either way, i'd take to a bedroom with a door and close the door. hold it firmly from the other side until he learns that a time out means you stay in that room until you can behave properly. it doesn't matter. you can either set a time limit or tell him that when he's quiet and ready to behave he can call you and then he can come out. ignore the mess. [ Reply | More ]
