[ - ] Have new baby and 3.5 yo. We stopped trying to get older son to take a nap because it took too much time and thus was impossible with the baby, but now he's soooooo tired in the afternoons. How does anyone handle this situation? 6 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

rest time in room with stories on CD (Jim Weiss is great, lots of good classics from the library or blackstoneaudio.com or amazon.com or audible.com). either he lays on bed or he plays with duplos on the floor while he listens. if he's really tired, he can fall asleep. if not, he gets some downtime and you get a break. My almost 5 yo and 3 yo both do this in separate rooms. Occasionally they sleep, but I prefer them to just rest in general or they don't go to sleep easily at night. [ Reply | More ]

if you look at Jim Weiss, he might like the Robinhood CD (my DDS LOVE it). Tall Tales, Animal Tales, etc. all great. He's a really good storyteller. There are tons of choices. My girls have also listened to Charlotte's Web, all 4 volumes of Winnie the Pooh, Beatrix Potter, etc. (you can get it from Blackstone Audio or Amazon or check if the NYPL has free digital downloads (our library gives permission to burn your own CD for quite a few things, but doesn't work if you have a mac) [ Reply | More ]

Totally. my husbadn and i were just commenting..since we are search for reasons to stay in the city, our duaghters are expsed to the most diverse/strange characters here which they would never find in the burbs. we were thinking its more of a good thing..slthough can also be bad too. no. It's really kind of segregated by neighborhood. There are very few black people in the heavily white neighborhoods. I guess in the lower income neighborhoods it's getting more "diverse" because the white people are seing bargains and moving into traditionally black or latin neighborhoods. it won't be that way for long though, they're be heavily white just like most of the other neighborhoods. That said, if you look at manhattan as a whole, as a single unit, it is incredibly diverse. [ Reply | More ]

They were worried about molar pregnancy but ultrasound 2 weeks ago looked fine and today the OB and I could both hear a strong heartbeat. I thin cut a family pack of chicken cutlets over the weekend, then grill them in a griddle pan and fridge. Then I use fun shaped metal cookie cutters and make scenes on a plate with ketchup and the chicken and whatever veggie, etc. (For example I used T-rex cutter, broccoli (trees), mashed potatoes and ketchup for volcano. It sounds like a time suck but it took two or three minutes and saved me ten watching (and policing) as ds's eat. [ Reply | More ]
