Have new baby and 3.5 yo. We stopped trying to get older son to take a nap because it took too much time and thus was impossible with the baby, but now he's soooooo tired in the afternoons. How does anyone handle this situation? [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

Pre-baby we'd lie down in bed and read a story before a nap. [ Reply | More ]

rest time in room with stories on CD (Jim Weiss is great, lots of good classics from the library or blackstoneaudio.com or amazon.com or audible.com). either he lays on bed or he plays with duplos on the floor while he listens. if he's really tired, he can fall asleep. if not, he gets some downtime and you get a break. My almost 5 yo and 3 yo both do this in separate rooms. Occasionally they sleep, but I prefer them to just rest in general or they don't go to sleep easily at night. [ Reply | More ]

if you look at Jim Weiss, he might like the Robinhood CD (my DDS LOVE it). Tall Tales, Animal Tales, etc. all great. He's a really good storyteller. There are tons of choices. My girls have also listened to Charlotte's Web, all 4 volumes of Winnie the Pooh, Beatrix Potter, etc. (you can get it from Blackstone Audio or Amazon or check if the NYPL has free digital downloads (our library gives permission to burn your own CD for quite a few things, but doesn't work if you have a mac) [ Reply | More ]
